You've goy several snows and cold weather while we were basking in the warmest October I ever remember. Several new records. But it appears that is about over after today when we might get back to normal temps. Glad to hear you got the snow machines out. How is that stove for maintenance?
If I may comment on that question: It is a cake walk! I've had three OWB beginning in the early 90's. Fantastic! Of course they do burn more wood, but the mess and smell is outside. Don't start in on the smoke issue; it is easily resolved with the burning of dry wood. I accomplished that almost immediately.
I’m seeing 32 on my phone this morning. Everything has a good coating of frost, the first really good frost of the season. Still no fire because still no soapstones for the stove. I hope they show up soon.
Are you planning the downtown fires again this year? I look forward to the pics. If you can post them.....
Not much burning here the last week or so pretty warm. Little chillier this morning big chunk of red maple in the stove at the moment.
There will be, (or at least there is supposed to be fires at the local downtown event). However I will not be the one doing it. I am taking the wife on a Caribbean cruise for her 60th birthday, and we will be on the flight home on that day. My stepson is going to help distribute the fire pits around knows where they go. And I have another young guy lined up to actually man the fires. He is relatively new to the area so I hope this helps him with a little bit of social interaction with the community. I’m going to miss it because it’s a good time, and I’m sure the kids will miss not being able to get cotton candy, even though last year was the first time for that.
Kind of a damp, cool, breezy 50-degree day today. No fires and the NG furnace is in the off position.
53, punky oak. Must not be as dry as I thought. No water or hissing but just doesn’t burn real well. Maybe it’s more rotted than I thought.
I have a Central Boiler- outdoor wood boiler, it’s less worse than my Blaze Kings at my last place. On one hand I miss a wood stove to sit around. The OWB is nice to drive the tractor or dump trailer to bring wood to and not worry about the mess. Also nice to park the tractor bucket right at the open boiler door to shovel the ashes. When we build our next house I want both.
I believe it burns more, when it’s a different house it’s not an apples to apples comparison. The OWB has lots of both good advantages and a few cons. Honestly I don’t notice any difference between what my Blaze Kings and OWB are. The biggest difference is the Blaze Kings (stove) as long as topped off has a consistent amount of smoke from the chimney. The OWB when the draft is closed just trickles out and when the draft open for the call to heat it looks like an ole coal/steam train. I imagine it all averages out. Now that my son talked the family into the firewood business, we have no idea the wood we burn. When we need wood we cut it with the processor and park a dump trailer right there. When we need the small dump trailer we dump/make a pile right at the boiler, rinse and repeat.
Was 5* when I started the coffee this morning. Up to 8* now while the spruce has us nice and comfy. More snow on the way both today and tomorrow.
