Fond memories I'm sure. Folks are funny when they say the tree is "big" and when I see it in person a 20" bar will handle it with ease. I try not to have to break out the longer bars unless needed.
I think at the time the largest runner he had was wearing a 16". I cut the stem into roughly 7' sections, which his tractor was able to drag, barely. It wasn't too much longer after that he & I took a ride to the saw store to get him a 562. I was of course more than happy to break out my new 'big' saw at the time.
Reminds me of when I got my used 460 powerhead before I joined FHC. After using nothing but a 16" bar my whole life, I thought I was Paul Bunyon after I put a 28" bar on it. Later bought a 36" bar which I seldom break out.
24" is the largest I've yet needed. I got a 28 with hopes that buying one would ensure I'd never need it. So far so good.
With a bar that long you can buck some good size logs. I did a 41" oak round a couple years back with one.
It's not. That's Dad and Son. I'm like a sasquatch in that regard. There has been one pic of me posted here, not by me.
Appears operation was a success. Won't know if the lines all sealed well until I can put some of my fuel in it for a shakedown run. Then a spa day and photo shoot for sale. Like it never even happenedĀ®.
Ohiya, southern. Only the wolves left around here mostly as far as slungers go. Silver maples and Sycamores get huge but I don't cut on those unless forced. I only got the 28 in case I ever wanted to fall some of my own trees. Spurs/flare can easily add a foot or more to diameter when down close to the ground.
