Back in 1971 we had a gas stove that had no electric connected to it. There were 2 pilot lights for the top burners and a pilot light for the oven. It was a very cheap unit. The stove we have now has an electrical lighter for the oven as Woodtroll mentioned.

Correct, the top burner valves will pass gas with no electricity, so they can be used if the power is out but will need to be manually lit.

The burner in the oven will not pass any gas at all without electricity and won't work even if you hold a match at the burner (unless it's a commercial oven or a very, very old residential oven with a pilot light, which I'm betting against in your rental property).

Dear Husband just said while sitting on one of the two ancient stools I insisted on bringing though he's always wanted to toss "I'm so glad we brought these 70 year old stools". They were in our little red cabin we bought in 1993. The previous home owner managed a location of a well loved Mexican food chain with a bar. They were from the bar there, tall ones. The faded cardboard tag on the bottom says 1950 or 1952. We "reupholstered" them a few times over the years with pillow shams from bedding sets and added extra foam once. He never like them, complained thoroughly when he had to tighten the deck screws he once drove to stop them from squeeking when I scooted to adjust in it. I can't express how happy I am to hear this! LOL, kiddo called him out on it   "you can bring them only if you promise to put new fabric on" :picard: Oops, fresh out of pillow shams, as he sits on old ones our now 10 y/0 cat has shredded and glad we brought them.

I'm happy he's happy! I love those stools!

check out the thrift store for fabric, table runners, placemats, etc. Might even be pillow shams there.
