I got the duravent thimble with OAK. Now I'm looking at venting and Selkirk is cheaper, also Menards carrys it. I wonder if the Selkirk brand will fit good into a duravent thimble?

I'll probably just get a 3ft section to check. I can always return it.

Edit: Google AI says Selkirk OD is 1/8 smaller than duravent. That should be ok, maybe? I always caulk around the vent pipe inside and out anyway.

I would think so. Once sealed I don't see an issue. Even if it was bigger in diameter. You could always trim the ID.

    Hi crew
    Been busy here.
Weather is changing now...A fire through the night last night...
I checked with the nut plant a week ago and they are running fully now that the harvest is at full swing.
I am thinking that we will get down to the plant this coming week and get a load of shells.....
Weather is looking good through all of the coming week.
    Take care

Yesterday I saw some pellets on Marketplace that someone in my town was selling. They were TSC, so I assumes MWP (since that is what my local TSC usually has). Looking up the number this morning (899186002089), these are Currans. Got 18 bags for $100, which is pretty good around here.

Haven't burned Currans in years. If I remember correctly, they were a middling pellet with a bit of ash. Which is pretty much what I usually burn, so it's all good.

Just don't tell AI that, we'll be running for our lives.

It has repeatedly been told that. Are you running yet?

Well, if it is wrong and doesn't know it, I think people will still be running for their lives. Whether that is large scale on the people side, or individuals that unintentionally have their house go boom because AI told them incorrect info on propane appliance maintenance, doesn't matter.

I've already had to tell someone that they are using their gas generator too close to their house in the past 10 days - and told them at least 20' away. Only reason they knew something was wrong was they had a CO detector that showed the level was climbing so shut off generator. Thought something was wrong with the machine.

Yet all the top hits in a search say 5' (until you get further into the articles - but if you look at what the bot chooses to show, you don't know that). Not until the very end of the 1st page do I see a 20' rule. Now, that is just searching for "How close can a gas generator be to house" so includes permanent standby generators which may have different rules (although around here, those generators are still placed 20' away minimum). If the search is changed to "How close can portable gas generator be to house", then AI comes up with the 20' rule

Interesting how stuff gets different answers including general searching. My gen came(from a dealer) with a 10' cable. So I had to do some digging. General search says 5' like you state. This is also on the NFPA 37 standard. See photo:

So I spent some time looking up local code. Our town has no set distance but states to use what is recommended in the owners manual. My gen has 20'(see second pic) and I never questioned what was provided with my gen!! Looks like I better get me a longer cable!! :emb:

Yes, I did glance the manual, But never bothered to look for this!!

I've seen this movie before and I'm not running!

I would have to look, but my area code for a whole house generator is 5ft. I think there are to many factors to determine a set distance. How tight is the house sealed, wind direction, how close to a window or door....

I have a whole house generator, I'm installing it 15ft away. I'm pointing the exhaust away from the house and the exhaust direction will favor usual wind direction.

Key word for that NPFA 37 blurb is "Stationary". Those are certified to certain testing to comply to the 5' rule.

First load of shells unloaded today.
Weather was absolutely gorgeous for the haul yesterday and today to unload.
We have a bit of wet weather coming tomorrow then nice Sunday
We will run Munchy and fill the basement stove ready barrels up Sunday
Huge nut crop this year too...
The current nuts are the small variety and the orchards are young.
Old orchards will get a lot of small sticks in with the nuts and they find there way back out and will jam the Munchy.
The machine has an easy release to clear that stuff....Just takes a couple minutes to clear and find the offending chunk so it does no get into the stove auger..../.
The plan is to get another load first of the week.
After we run Munchy we will probably be close to having enough barrels to unload the second load.
If the weather holds we will likely head down and get a third load.
Six loads is pretty much a full seasons worth....
Far more fun doing this job in the nice fall weather than when the weather is nasty.
