So I am working on a furnace for the basement but I would like to add a pellet stove upstairs. Since I had a tremendous amount of help here with the furnace I figured it's worth to ask.

I came across 2 different stoves, one is a Castle Serenity, the other is a TimberRidge 55-SHPIP.

Anyone own either of these? I need help in deciding. Looking to do this ASAP.

Second to none customer support on the Englander....I would think you might not get that with the other stove....I also love my EP stove.

Timber Ridge by Englander hands down. Simple, inexpensive with unsurpassed after the sale support. I still have one in my shop and it's been flawless.

If you're considering the Timber Ridge IP, I highly suggest you get a factory refurb unit from this company:
    http://www.amfmenergy.com/manufacturer-refurbished-stoves.html

Unfortunately, they seem to be out of stock on the IP right now.

The above mentioned Mike Holton is the senior tech at the company and personally oversees the refurb process on all the stoves. You can even give him a call if you're interested....he can tell you how soon a refurb or blem unit might be ready to ship out:

    (800) 245-6489 Whoever answers, ask to speak to Mike directly or have him call you back....he's a great guy to talk to.

Thanks guys! As you can tell this is new for me but very important to get this going before the cold comes.

I am looking at stoves for the heat output and durability but my wife wants a "pretty" stove:rofl:

I actually emailed amfmenergy, I got a response back from Andy Mays. I asked if they give discounts but said no.

I am interested in this one

As I mentioned above, I recommend giving Mike Holton a call at Englander stoves. He may be able to let you know if he has any of the refurbs/scratch & dent units in the pipeline.

If not, the $1449 that AmFm sells it for new isn't a bad price. Lowes & HD are asking $2K

Not for nothing, but the Castle stove might be nice, but they're a somewhat unknown stove....I don't remember anyone on this forum (or the other one) having one. And their customer service? hmmmmm....who knows.

Going to give Mike a call, the price is ok but never hurts to ask.

It has very close specs but is only a 40lb hopper and is rated for 1500 sq ft. Has a nice big window though. Wish I didn't see that one :headbang:

You'd come to appreciate the IP's 80 lb hopper down the road.

I read the company was Ardisam. Not sure if that helps....doesn't mean much to me.

Yeah 80 is nice, the biggest feature difference was when using a tstat, the castle doesn't shut off, it goes to idle. The IP actually shuts off. Both have air wash

NEVER BUY A STOVE BASED ON LOOKS… YOU MAY THINK YOU'RE GETTING MARYLYN MONROE BUT YOU MAY WIND UP WITH MARYLYN MANSON!

I know I tried to tell the wife but she doesn't understand mechanics. I am picking based on what my space can physically fit, and trying to get the most I can out of something smaller in size.

There is a possibility that the IP can do both, On-Off and Hi-Lo. My CPM originally only did On-Off, but a later control board revision changed that (I had a replacement board under warranty...one of the buttons didn't work).

Again, that is something you'd have to ask Mike Holton about.

My neighbor has the IP and I'm pretty sure it does hi/lo and auto/off. The only 2 complaint he has is the heat exchanger and pellet tolerance. The exchanger is just a big open box and the only surface that absorbs the heat is the bottom. He installed some aluminum extrusions that are acting like a heat sink to absorb more of the heat so the convection fan can transfer it into the room. Otherwise it seems more heat just goes out the vent. And his burn pot tends to back up if he burns pellets with an ash content over 0.6% range. Has to spend a bit more to avoid the dreaded burnpot load up on the over night burns. We might try enlarging the burnpot holes a wee bit too see if it helps. But will order a new burnpot JIC it doesn't work!

If he did it again he would have went with something which has tube type heat exchanger. And something that was a bit more tolerant to crap pellets. He's eyeing up the Pacific energy's Warmland my buddy just bought! An excellent feature filled stove for under $2400 IMHO.

I have read a few good things about that Serenity unit. That being said I would go with the Timberidge. Best units for the money IMHO.
