Once the calendar flipped to September and things started to cool just a little in my neck of the woods, it was apparent that my saw, axes and myself could no longer sit idle. After I had cleaned up a few loads of red oak and ironwood from my buddy's place I was in dire need of a new wood source. My last resort was my local "Buy Nothing" group on Facebook, which took a herculean effort to post on my part. I do not fool with the Book of Face. 'Tis a silly place. Anywho, I put up a post stating that I would gladly come take any down trees in return for the firewood. Me, being my picky self, clearly stated that the tree needed to be down (no leaners), accessible (I'm not bushwhacking for half a mile) and free of the itchy leaves of three. I assumed that was enough stipulation to turn most people off from contacting me, but within minutes of hitting the "Post" button I already had several messages from people. With pictures no less! I tell ya, this new internet stuff is the bees knees. So at the moment I have access to downed timber on no less that three properties in town which I have already taken a few loads from, almost all of it exclusively red oak. Not a bad deal if you ask me. This was motivation to finally fix up my old Jonsered 670 Champ to have as a backup to the 372 clone, and both are running in spectacular fashion, thanks for asking. My hand filing is coming along nicely as well. (thanks Buckin' Billy Ray) I've been coming home on my lunch break and splitting a cartload of wood before heading back to the office. When I get home from work I'll split more until it's too dark. It's heavenly. I'm often asked when I plan on buying a wood splitter, to which I reply "I am the splitter." When my body tells me it's time to buy one I'll do it, but right now swinging the axe is good for the soul and body. I hope everyone is a having a stellar start to fall. Keep your chains sharp.

Good way to do it and nice that you found it close. Always a plus when you can cut it to your size and what work you are willing to do for "free". I had placed one looking for free wood years back on Craigs list. The few replies yielded junk so I gave it up. Facebook marketplace is a great place to find free wood once you weed through the BS some folks put you through. A good amount of my inventory comes from it. If I was cutting just for personal use idve never gone hydro. Little by little gets it done. What is your current wood inventory cord wise? Ive been loving the cooler and drier Fall temps. Nice not to sweat profusely. Hoard on and cut safe!
