Moving firewood ‘26/‘27

Working through an infection in my hand. Came on during the course of the day doing tree work. Didn’t recall any injury, but something got me. Two days later in the hospital and 3 days later a small surgery to drain it. Nasty little bugs!

 

Jeez, no likes there. Looks rather uncomfortable. At least it’s under control.

 

Spider bite?
Yikes...heal well man!

 

I wondered if a spider got me because I didn’t have an injury where a foreign body got in. I had a follow up and mri scheduled for today but I canceled.

 

And so it begins here.




That's enough of that fun for today. I'll let the sun introduce itself before covering.

And, I made some chunks and kindling readily available. Also on the deck.

 

In 2003 I had some friends over for a bonfire and a few beers. Afterwards I woke up in the middle of the night with extreme pain on my shin. Small little bump looked like a mosquito bite. I shrugged it off and went on my motorcycle trip. Got to my designation and took a look at my leg that was still in a lot of pain. My shin was all black and blue and the skin was starting to fall off! Got a ride to the local hospital. And they said it was most likely a brown recluse spider bite. I had no idea I was ever bitten.

 

It makes me happy to see the annual firewood move threads. To me it means firewooding season is just weeks away. Those basements full of firewood are good to see!
I hope your hand heals quickly, that looks awful. Spider bite?

 

Getting older sucks...
I've been having more and more pain in my back lately after doing work, and I thought, "I'm too young for this!" Everyone told me you will start to fall apart in your 40's....

 

True story

 

Surprised to see some bark still clinging onto that chestnut. I gotta move wood soon too. House stacks need about 3 cord, and I have that much at least to get out of the yard up in the woods this year. Running short on room for rows down at the lower yard. Been waiting to get the oldest out or it will get burried in behind newer stuff. The space not being used holds about 80 feet of wood rows (2 x 40' or so) I'll move that oldest row to house this year, then there is the second oldest, which can be accessed from other side next year, allowing me to build back in on other side this winter. Firewood logistics.

 

I was fine in the 40’s. It’s the 50’s that I notice things (54now).

 

Curious. What are the doodads on your metal roof? Nice looking firewood!

 

Maybe when you actually get old Brad, we will let you post on it!

They breakup the ice when it slides down the roof...Mostly so you don't get killed if you are standing under the roof during a mini avalanche

I'm a little behind you but I feel it now already. My shoulders are mad at me most of the time now. Have to keep reminding myself that I know a 93 year old with a CDL that still drives a dump truck (he doesn't have to). Worst part is not wanting to take any pills to mitigate aches. Dunno how long I'll be able to abide by my own rule there.

 

I finally have learned to take ibuprofen before I start doing firewood and such, instead of after I start hurting.

 

Alieve is hard on my stomach. Ibuprofen is hard on my kidneys. Advil used to be my go to before I had kidney issues. Some might call balderdash, but I honestly cannot remember the last time I took anything for aches & pains. Only been a handful of times since I had a stone. Of course after that adventure most 'pain' isn't really. lol
