New Utility Trailer Shopping

This one is bouncy too...but not bad enough to make me wish I got a lighter one.

 

Often some of that empty bounce will be mitigated after a few good loads seat the springs a bit. That's a really nice trailer, I bet it will serve you well for the long haul.

 

Should I make sides out of 5/4 decking or 2x material? I want it to be strong but I also want to be able to remove and install fairly easily.

 

5/4 IMO

 

Used 1x on mine, 5/4 should work well for you!

 

This reminds me I need to figure out some low sides for my new to me 14’er. I’m not sure there’s stale pockets either so will either have to weld some on (I’d rather not) or figure out alternative ideas. It’s a wooden deck and was my FIL’s he used to haul his Rino sxs with a hydraulic soil probe.

 

I hauled 5 yards of mulch last night and on the trip back (empty) it seemed a lot less bouncy. I'm hauling a tractor this weekend that hopefully will take the rest out.

Overall, it tows great. New TBC in the truck and the trailer brakes work amazing together. Wish the truck has a little more grunt (4.6 24V), but I'm not in a hurry and won't be going far.

 

Well, it only took 4.5 years but I outgrew the trailer. Since I bought this trailer I've gotten a bigger truck and tractor and have picked up some side work with it. Right now if I want to haul the tractor and brush mower I have to back the brush mower on, drop it, then pull the tractor on forward and set the loader on the brush mower. I've decided I've had enough of that and I'm not getting any younger picking up the HD ramps either. I also want to be able to get an entire season's worth of hay in one trip vs a couple.

Ended up finding a leftover 2025 14K 22' tilt trailer for a really good price. For what I'm getting on trade and the sales tax savings it didn't make sense to deal with FBM selling it myself. Going to hook up the old trailer in the AM and go get it.

I don't see myself outgrowing this. Way more than what I need but can haul a SVL75 or similar size machine if I ever need to borrow/rent one....and if things work out according to plan I will in the next 3-4 years.

Too bad I didn't have enough truck or enough money for one of these years ago, but patience pays off I guess.

I got up at dark thirty and had to drive 3 hours each way. The deck is weathered but that's to be expected for a 2 year old brand new trailer. Tows really nicely and it much quieter with no ramps to rattle around on the bumps. It's 1,000 lbs heavier empty than the old trailer but the truck didn't notice. If anything this tows better without the ramp parachute.




Same exact spot the first trailer in the thread was parked. Looks a little different around here.

Got the fronts done to match the back. Looks darker than it is being a white truck.

 

Very nice trailer. Biggest plus w/ my utility trailer is the ability to move it around by hand, easily.
