Who the hell buys something like this? I noticed there are no reviews. http://www.amazon.com/GANT-Michael-...12706928&sr=8-10&keywords=men's+flannel+shirt
For some reason I get a catalouge at the house called mauss and haughman or something like that. And it has clothes in it like that. $100 ties. $185 nice button down shirts. Womeans jackets for $600. Just crazy prices. They send at least one a month and it goes straight to the trash. Often times the trash can right next to the mailbox if its sitting there.
I have a many tailored shirts, suits and pants. No excuse for something ill fitting, doesn't need to cost 185 for a shirt, but I have spent near that.
I don't have a tailored anything. The things I have got don't seem to fit right away in the past. I hate those right suits guys wear now a days that the sleeves are so short on and the tight short pants and jackets that barely button. Doesn't look stylish to me just looks like your sloppy in a small suit??
Proper fit is timeless, currently trends are a little tighter on the pants, I don't wear my suits/clothes that tight, but more classical, think Redford, Reagan, Brando, Grant, Sinatra. Every Man Should Know when, and how, to wear a suit IMHO, and one that fits. I also rock jeans and a flannel often, but then I also tailor most of my shirts(flannels too)/pants myself. Brando showing sleeve, tight'er' pants and only one button buttoned(you should never button the bottom button, ever. Top button on a two button, and top button rarely on a three button.) The timber men of the 1800's wouldn't dare go into town on their night off without donning their going to town clothes. BTW that is Baker City Saloon near Spokane sometime mid 1850's
What would you say is the minimum amount you could spend to get a shirt that fits right then? I don't have money coming out the wazoo but even if I did I doubt I'd spend that much on a shirt. What's the difference between a shirt that costs $185 and one that costs $40? Seems like just another example of the vulgar materialism that pervades our culture, the kind you see on black Friday every year. Nothing like a good stampede and dozens trampled to save $50 on the latest iPhone.
I am with you on being tall. Just can't shop everywhere like most folks. I need tall upper body stuff period. Can't stand the Jethro look.
Material and workmanship. I usually buy off the rack at $20-$80 depending on the cloth. and how the seams are put together. Then I will tailor it myself to make the fit perfect, or take it to my tailor who charges me $20 to rework a shirt. I have a 16 inch drop from my chest 48" to my waist 32". If I dont have suits/shirts tailored they look like parachutes. NOTE: athletic cut is only a 6" drop and Olympic cut is only 8" chest to waist. Slim fit shirts dont work because to get the chest/ shoulder to fit the waist is too baggy. 37 and According to Cambridge I am And you are part of a forum that espouses the use of the word gooder, or more gooder..... No one here would think twice about dropping the money for a top end chain for their saw when a $10 safety chain from HD will do. I need to look put together for my day job, I also think it says something about me that I can enough about the person I am going to see socially that I have thought about what I am wearing for at least 5-10 min It is all what is important to you. I am not saying I am better, just that this is what I feel is important.
Augi I dont like short pants like the pic or too tight. Yes the cuff of the shirt is suppose to show but the jacket , in my opinion should not look like its two sizes too small and the top button about to shoot off its under so much pressure. The kind of suit I am talking....ryan seacrest wears them on idol...just thought of him cause we watch the show and I always talk about his awful fitting suits. Again my opinion doesnt matter as I only wear nice stuff too church. As a forester I wear jeans and t chits or flannel to work. I may be at a desk all day or in the woods in my truck, running a saw or climbing up on some oily loader to talk to a contractor. Its funny to take the office types out there after a rain...they tip toe through the ankle deep mud as I just slog through it. And I am not meaning in their office wear, talking about their "field clothes".
I didn't mean to come off as rude but the whole "$185 shirt" just reminded me of how superficial and materialistic our society at large has become. It makes me angry. Very angry.
Not out of control, responding to the whims of the public. Dont forget buying a $1000-$1500 dollar saw, when you already have one or two or three that are servicable, or a fiskers splitting axe when the Maul you have been using for 30 years would work just as well. There is nothing wrong with consumerism , as long as it is your own brand of consumerism, but watch out if your views of what is valuable dont mesh with mine. 'cuz Ill damm you to hell for what is wrong with America Today. This attitude of my views are the right views that we have today bothers me, the right with their stance against gay marriage or the left with their stance or global warming. Just because you believe something isnt any reason to think you are allowed to push those views on anyone else.
All I know is that there is a lot of music I don't like, maybe I'm too old. That doesn't mean it's bad, it just isn't for me. That's the way I feel about expensive cars and clothes.
So...uh...flannel? Shirts have been adequately comfortable for our brisk morning here so far. It's starting to get under 65 you know
Wow! Didn't take long for this thread to get hi-jacked! I think the flannels need to be a heavier weight; nit only for warmth but also for longevity. The ones from box stores have yet to meet both of those requirements. Kinda concerned about wearing them for work.
I have plenty of flannel shirts from Walmart...Most of them shrank after the first run through the drier and either sit in the closet (until it's time for a trip to salvation army/Goodwill donation) or my wife cuts them to short sleeves and wears them to work in the yard. I for one will no longer buy Walmart Flannels.
