Went up town this morning to help the guy who has the Champion 25 ton log splitter for sale/trade. We used it for 3 hours and got all his rounds split. His grandson was there and he really helped. It’s the fresh pile in front the rear weathered pile in the rear he split last fall. So I gave the Champion a good workout. Struggled on few big elm rounds but we got through them. I wish the engine would idle down when not splitting but it doesn’t. He claims he paid $1600 for it 3-4 years ago he can’t remember. I think tomorrow I will offer him $700 or 5 face cords of dry split oak. Still thinking about it. Need to sleep on it.
The log splitter seller just texted me: “we got a deal” I pick it up Friday afternoon and he agreed 5 face cords of dry split oak was enough on my end. woo woo
Walked my woods this morning. Wonder what killed this nice shag. The top looks very healthy. Right across a trail. It will be firewood soon. I like my trails clean. That is why I use Gordon’s brush killer every spring. Yet it doesn’t kill ferns or grass. Wood splitter seller is unavailable til 4pm. I’m like a kid on Christmas Eve,
Yes I do. It works great. Gordon’s sell two kinds make sure it says “hard to kill brush” on the label. Absolute murder on buck brush, burdock, gooseberry, thistles, honey suckle, and most of all poison ivy.
Well, I got the Champion 25 ton home. Seller washed it and oiled the I-beam! I used the Honda for the tow vehicle since it was only a 12 mile round trip. The hydro oil looks clean. I think I will change the engine oil (.6 quart) clean the air filter, and change the hydro oil filter. And it still had the HALT no engine oil hang tag on it. And of course it has the guillotine mode! An astute viewer will see I already removed the fenders. Both of my legs were bleeding after two splitting sessions those things are razor sharp. Manufacture date of July 2022 he wrote on the owners manual. This thing bounced like Mick Jagger singing Jumping Jack Flash on the way home. Seller had 90# in the tires sidewalls say 60# max, And I was only going 25 mph.
Looks brand new! I think you did good. Whenever I clean the rails on my DHT splitter I melt down some old candles and paint it on them. Once it solidifies it lubes but doesn't seem to attract so much grit and junk. Time for you to get crackin....er splitting!
Congrats on your new toy. Me thinks your electric splitter will get used a lot less. When I went hydro (gas) there was no looking back. If I was just cutting for personal use i'd still hand split.
I will try to remember to get some for next year. I am still having some mobility issues from my hip surgery this past spring.
I buy it at Farm and Fleet and Tractor Supply. $80 gal at farm n barn but TSC had it on sale this spring for $54.99 gal. Bought all they had! (3 gals). Gassers Farm Store chain has it on sale occasionally also.
A question for a filter expert. The book gives 3 recommendations for the hydraulic filter: FRAM PH9342 K&N HP - 2008 WIX 51361 Is one better than the other?
Whoa, the shed is looking a little barren. I started with 15 face cords of dry oak a month or so ago and am now down to 3 face cords of dry oak left. And 1 face is spoken for. Another previous customer just left with 4 face cords. I raised my price to $125 a face this year and nobody complained. Come mid November I’ll have it re filled with another 15. Take that to the bank.
Did good on the splitter, and I have no doubt you will fill the shed with 15, or more. Wondering what trailer that is? Kind of watching for something a little under 48" wide for the lawn tractor.
