Since my wife got a new (to us) Yukon she has been adamant about it being garage kept. Which I support. (NOT the one in the pictures!) However the single car garage attached to our walkout basement is too small so she parks in the shop/ pole barn. It is somewhat visible in these photos but there is a fairly steep drop of about 2' from the asphalt drive to the concrete pad in front of th shop over about 30'. Over time this has caused the asphalt to blow out when she backs out 2-3 times a day. I got inherently worse this year after the ground thawed. So saturday I had to do something. Started about 6 am before the sun came up and had the form boards in place by about 10am. Then had to run errands and take the kids to a birthday party, so I started mixing and pouring about 5pm and finished with the floating and troweling around 8:30 pm. (27) 60# bags of Sackrete (on sale at Blanes for $3.33 a bag I realized I don't have a finished picture. Will have to grab tonight.
I am not wize in the ways of cement/concrete. Is there a need for an expansion joint? Pics of it looks nice!
I debated that myself, by thoughts were (3) fold -Seal it tight to keep moisture from getting in -The asphalt is much more flexible than concrete and should absorb any movement -The asphalt is old, cracked, and needs replaced, this is a bandaid for a few years until the driveway is redone and connected to the shop apron
I thought about that, and it didn't get in any pictures, but I drove (6) 18" long pieces of 2" x 2" x 1/4" angle into the ground to help mitigate it. (from the scrap bin at work) Again, this is in theory a temporary fix for a few years
