Oh man. :( Your "other" heat must be running this morning though. :( I can't believe you are not having a fire this morning to take the chill off and enjoy it, and not be burning the "other". Did you have a fire late last night?

Low 30s in Jersey. Burn baby burn. See I have this wood stove and a huge pile of dead trees cut into small lengths and split down the center. Ya put one in the stove and FIRE comes out.

We had 19° on the digital thermometer this morning.......should've loaded up the fireplace with locust last night because we woke up to 67° in the house this morning.....wifey don't like that!

Tonight I'll fire up both the stove and the fireplace as its supposed to be in the low 20's again....I'm anxious for winter!!

It got into the mid-20's overnight here. I loaded the insert with red elm before bed, but in the daytime I'm just trying to use up some junk slab wood (mostly poplar and basswood) that I got last year.

Scotty, I'm curious what your ratio of stove volume to floor area is like. I'd be really happy if I could manage 67 in most of the house in cold weather, but I generally can't get temps that high outside of the large living room where the stove is located. I'm sure there are a lot of reasons to explain it, like the fact that I've got no insulation in the walls and only R19 in the attic, and the fact that my stove is an insert rather than free-standing. But as I contemplate potential improvements, I wish I had a better feel for what I could reasonably hope for.

Jon, I agree. If it got to 19 here and I didn't have an overnight fire, I'd wake to the house in the low 60's.....if I was lucky.
Cruddy insulation has a lot to do with that here.

Was in the 20s last night. At 9:30 we are just tickling 33°. The house is a toasty 77°. Burned some Locust overnight. Lots of hot coals for a restart this morning.
