I ended up taking the day off to bring one of my dogs to the vet for a routine appointment. When that was all said and done I was thinking, "Well, I just might have time to go snag some of that red oak I was scrounging a couple weeks ago." It's been so freakin' hot that scrounging was out of the question for me, but today there had been a steady drizzle coming down all day and the temp was sitting around 70 degrees.

I headed out to the spot and starting ripping into it. Got a full truck load of red oak, headed back to the ranch and split / stacked the whole load before the wife came home. Soaking wet but worth it.

Mmmm. Fresh red oak chunks cleaned up with the Fiskars look fantastic. Nice getting after it now that the rain has finally cleared out.

Six pallets long, so roughly 24' give or take. There is another 24' long stack behind me from where I'm taking the picture.

So a full cord at least depending on height. Very nice!

Sure beats working in the humidity. Nice looking stacks there.

Did you end up burning your holy hausen? Gonna build another?

Thanks Brad! Yeah, the wood from the holz hausen was burned a few years ago. It was an interesting little experiment / art project that was a result of being out of work and having an abundance of wood to process. Fun, but I don't think I'll do it again. Wood dries out better in conventional stacks, regardless of the what the internet hoopla and the YouTubes will tell you.

Good information to know. I always suspected what you experienced as true.
