Very Nice! What treatment do you/did you use on the deck? Hard to find a decent treatment here in Washington State after the last round of environmental restrictions went into effect. Fortunately I had two gallons of the ancient pre-ban brown copper treatment in a dark corner of the garage where Greener folks are terrified to go that I used on my trailer rebuild. Again, nice job on the trailer. Lots of satisfaction to be gained on a rehab like that!
Thank you! For treatment I'm going to let the boards dry out for a few months at least and then used oil/diesel mixed 50 50
Real nice work on the trailer. If you char the exterior of your wood deck before you stain with the diesel/oil it will last way longer. Something I learned from my grandfather with fence posts on the farm. Those posts are still there and sound almost 50 years later.
We still have some old locust posts on the farm that are solid, pretty sure they predate me...not charred, that I know of...wonder if that would make them even more rot resistant? (specifically, locust post)
It’s my understanding that it makes any wood last longer. It’s a hundreds of years old Japanese technique. He said it would keep rot away for 80 years. How the heck my grandpa knew about it I have no idea. Maybe he picked it up over there in the navy in WW II
