A good friend of mine found a whole bunch of elm that had been removed from the edge of a golf course. We filled up two pickup trucks tonight, and will head back again tomorrow. We may even go back Saturday if the pile lasts that long. Good wood like this is a rare treat in Colorado. I got home late tonight and off loaded in the dark. Can not wait to split and stack this stuff. It is so dense and heavy. I think I may build my first wood shed on this property to properly house this King of all woods. What a blessing, praise the good Lord for this find.
The bark, compound leaves with opposite branching and wood color sure look like green ash to me. Excellent grab regardless.
I was gonna say something similar except for maybe the 3rd from last pic and that could maybe be some Chinese elm?
Looking at online bark pictures and it's probably not but that was my first thought when I saw the flakey bark.
