We have been filling wood totes this week and got to some honey locust that we brought home last summer. It was STOOPID heavy when we cut it and it’s STILL stupid heavy! It’s competing with lead for a spot on the periodic table.

We filled a tote with it, just 2 rows like we discussed, and it was right at the tipping point of the bobcat! I thought maybe I was dreaming. That tote was well north of 2,000 lbs.

I’ve got about 2 cords in my stacks but won’t get to it for a few seasons yet. Should be gold when it finally comes inside.

Yes it is heavy. When cut green and when used 3-4 years later. Slow drying but worth the wait!

Best set that basket it a special location and enjoy it 28--29 burning season.

Ive got 2.5+ cords worth in varying stages of drying.

That is one I've never burned. Shoot, I don't think I've ever seen one around here.

I scored a bunch several years back. Yep, super heavy when green. And still dense and heavy 3-4 years later. I burned a fair bit of it last winter and in my opinion it didn’t live up to the hype. Given the opportunity I’d take it again, but I won’t feel like I won the lottery this time. Splits nice though.
    Your mileage may vary

A very popular commercial landscape tree around here. Don't know if it even grows wild here or not.
EDIT: a quick Google shows it does grow wild here. The wild ones have the thorns. Guessing the one I cut a year ago was wild as it had the thorns.

I have some large HL splits that I'd be willing to bet are at least 20 lbs...they've been in the shed/ready to burn for at least 3-4 years now... probably cut 10 years ago.

Sounds about right. We split more HL and ash tonight and those totes were heavy buggers. Moisture on both was around 25% on the meter. Each tote is 56 cubic feet or .437 cord! I didn’t think we made em that big. No wonder they weigh a ton!:rofl:

We have filled a total of 9 totes so far, for a grand total of about 4.5 cord. One of them is the original 3 row that we made. The only reason I can even move it is because it has half dry maple in it.
