Sometime soon in the near future, as in hopefully 2 months or could be up to 6 months. Probably across the country. 2 lifetimes of accumulated possessions and 36 years together . I suppose most will not be moved. For what we do take with us, what methods do you guys like? (preface, we can't do the physical lifting/loading). I like the idea of PODS, we'd have to hire labor here last minute for our couch and a couple furniture items. But no pods here so: Uhaul has little fishing hut sized containers, also self pack also. Another company that works like UBox. Will have to hire off facebook to load boxes and sectional couch I guess.
We'll end up in a much warmer place. XXheavy down king comfortors? I was thinking trying to use a vacuum seal bags to compress them, but do I even need those, or all our extreme cold clothes/jackets/gators/gloves? I have a baclava here by my desk I used the other evening. Our wedding China? I won the basic set in the wedding package I won, a couple relatives added a gravy boat and bread basket. We've used it twice in 32 years at our old house.
What type of boxes should I use? Husband wants sterilite totes (omg $$$$$). But, even boxes are not cheap. I was thinking the collapsable plastic duffle bag types for clothes. His hunting mounts? How to move those ? Wood crates are too much. Game birds, a few smaller big game and big elk rack. Books I was thinking bankers boxes, handles and not too big for the weight.
We saved a ton of work by leaving all the clothes on their hangers in the closet, rather than boxing up. The enclosed box trailer we used to move had a pipe across that clothes could be hung from...just grab an arm full from the closet n go...saves a bunch of time! Label all boxes well, and if possible put them directly into the room that they are to end up in at the new house.
I sometimes see people selling their moving boxes cheap, even free. If you lived closer to a city it wouldn't be hard to find stores throwing out tons of boxes!
Exactly, this town is so backwards, time warp. I thought I'd leave a key with a trusted mom I know do what she can the decent stuff that we leave, donations don't work either for similar reasons?
Options that might exist for you. Upack is abf's service. A buddy used the abf to move him and his wife from WI to Oregon. Abf trucks pick it up. ReloCube Moving Containers Fastenal has pretty much the same thing, you can when use it to middle old Ford tractor parts across country. Lol
Oh Yes, your updating home to put on the market for greener pastures. How's that going? Decide on any improvements to do? We had 4 months to pack to relocate ~ August. Um, WWW could be gone as soon as 3 weeks (he'll come back to get us after he gets a rental settled etc.) but this house needs him to run correctly, hauling water, pellets, wood, kid taxi and grocery shopper etc. So the sooner we're packed and moved the better. I'm STILL WAITING for a road test for my drivers license 8 weeks later So, guess I'll be taking my chances driving for groceries and other trips to town he usually does
Looked up my coffee mugs set they gave me a couple years ago (I'm particular and these are perfect!), they are $9 for 6 pk. Would cost more time and effort and $$ to pack/move than getting a new set. Most of our mismatched glasses too. So much of things we use daily are the same., but we won't have a bundle to spend when we get there. What do you guys think of using painters plastic dropcloths to protect our sectional sofa pieces incase of water getting inside during the transport? Also, thinking about something like this for us til we get new beds, do have better ideas?
That would be hard for me to get off the floor in the morning... I know the deep South would probably be hard on your breathing...if ya'll do wind up down this way, it would be nice to visit.
Hey, would've replied sooner but the site has been wonky. Talked with the realtors and decided to sell it the way it is. Going to sign a contract and get a deposit Tuesday in order to sell it this fall, August or September. That time is going to work better for both parties. So I'll have a little time to pack my things.
I have a large family and helped move others in my youth. Most long distance movers charge by weight. Why take an: old couch, dishes stuff that can be replaced at thrift store used for less $$.. You box things in prep stages label it with room and get a 20 foot Ryder or U-Haul clothes you put 20 hangars in contractor bag cut hole in bottom and hang on bar boxes in hubby has to go to town Home Depot Walmart etc etc have boxes for free
Yes, it worries me. I'm hoping I'll be okay inside with air conditioning and dehumidifiers. One thing he mentioned that I don't know the effects we'll be in 30% more O2 near sea level, would be awesome if that countered some of the stuggles with the wet air. And your right on the fold out chair for us, kid will be fine.
