I sent Dex a few chains just before his GTG kicked off .............. spun up some RSL off the roll and "cleaned up 3 of them, then hand filed 2 more after cleaning them too. I definately didnt want to post since my last few square filing chains cut crooked (left cutters were soo much sharper than the right cutters), so I changed positions and got more comfy, and asked Dex to keep things on the down low. Dex's two hand filed chains were #2 and #3 attempts in the new right cutter filing position. Thank God they cut straight !!! I am real happy about my square filing now, my right cutters are just as sharp as the left ones, maybe even sharper ?? Here is what Dex sent me

They cut straight.. :) I didn't compare the 16" chains, but I did run the good 16" chain against a 7900 (with a nice chain) and also an 064 (Mastermind'd) with a nice chain. To give you an idea, I was only hundredths of a second behind them. It went 2.8 on my 460 the Ed Heard 7900 was at 2.1.

Your 25" chain did well. Stock RSL went 15.22. The Cut and Clean 25" went 13.40 seconds. :) Shaved 2 seconds off. To give you an idea on how close that is to being a very good chain, the fastest chain I had that someone else sent me was 12.91 seconds. So it's only .6 seconds off of a chain that has a lot of chassis, raker, and cutter work.

Cutting 2 seconds off is good. Sometimes all that work is only good for a .1 or so in a small cant. All of those add up in 3 cuts. That's why they do so much work to them. It takes lots of trial and error to make a fast chain all the time. I've had more errors than success in that part. The angles on my chains are real close for work chain for me. If I'm going to square file I want to get the speed and smoothness. The stock angles on square are even with round filed stuff for me.

I did a little testing with ps and 3/8 on my 550.Brand new the ps was faster then the 3/8 but when I hand filed both the 3/8 got faster and the ps got slower.

I also think that the ps is easier to get good consistent times with and I also like the way it works for limbing better.I also cut down a few trees using a bore cut and it was very smooth when boring. Now when you square file the ps and work on making it faster like the chain Mastermech had it might be a differant story.

I apologize to a certain Admin if I did this wrong. I am bored at work and thought I would post what I had on my camera. I didn't get to get a group picture or get any picture before lunch since I was in the house. I truly enjoyed hosting you all. You are all welcome
anytime. I hope we can make this an annual event. Hopefully with a little less wind and a little more sunshine next time. Thank you for making this a great weekend.

Haha! Love it!! There is a Mrs Dex on here now. Couldn't let that "certain admin" have all the fun!!

So were you the official timekeeper and photog at this one too? Or you just did what you wanted as it was your house?

Looks like yall did a good job hosting from the pics I see and what I have read. Maybe one day we can get up there to meet y'all.

It sure looks like the FHC clan put another great time under their belts. Sorry I missed it, but my daughters "HS Homecoming" activities that day took priority here for Dad. The best part is it appears everyone wrapped it up safe and sound. You didn't need the "retired safety guy" watching out for you after all. :ithappened:
