My Amish buddy went up on the roof and brushed the chimney today. Hasn’t been done in two years. I don’t think it was bad. It helps to have dry oak and burn hot fires. All we could find was a little pile and he got the brush down to the stovetop 4 times,,,

Need to replace some fire bricks and the door gasket passed the dollar bill test.

Just spent 4 quiet days at our cabin. Just campfires, yard clean up, and beers. Did a little sawing not much.

    IMG_4211.jpeg

I think we have enough campfire wood hoarded,,

    IMG_4212.jpeg

AND on the way home the junkyard owner texted me “hey buddy, a huge tree came down Friday night”

I thought I was done junkyarding this spring. I’ll take the Honda over and see if it is an oak after supper.

There are still 2 full cords of oak in the woodshed up there.
But we only use oak in the campfire if grandson wants s’mores (and hot dogs).
Otherwise, all pine for campfires and yard waste,,

Well, well. I took the Honda over to the junkyard and found two new red oaks on the ground. First one is 24 inches DBH and I bet I can get 40 good rounds out of her. She goes a long way.

    IMG_4213.jpeg IMG_4214.jpeg

Second one is much smaller but still worth the effort.

I have three empty saws and a half gal of pre mix left. I will prolly have to make up more.

    such is life

I am shocked. My friend the abandoned junkyard owner one mile south of me has died. His wife said he was driving himself to the hospital and had a “medical emergency” behind the wheel of his truck.

sad sad day here he was a good man,,,,

I just talked to his brother. Brother claims Robert was having stomach pain for three days. Was drinking Pepto Bismol like crazy. It didn’t work and the stomach pain moved “up” that is when Robert decided to drive himself to the hospital. Didn’t make it. Hit a power pole and a bridge railing. Coroner said heart attack before the accident.

I am still in the dumps. Robert was a nice man. We just talked last week about having a cookout on his property I was spose to bring some black angus burgers,,,,

Went over to the junkyard this morning to work up those two downed oaks. There were 5 cars parked along the road and many people standing about so I bailed. Not sure what was going on none of business really. So I headed to my woods instead. 5 oaks were put on the ground.

    IMG_4217.jpeg IMG_4218.jpeg IMG_4219.jpeg IMG_4220.jpeg

Then I started splitting in place cuz my trailer is full of rounds for the town guy.

Red oak splits so nice. But I got tired of splitting and went mushrooming instead. This is half of what I found.

The monster blondes aren’t up yet so I will be patient. Those are the ones we prefer,,,

And my wife just told she drove by the junkyard a couple hours after I did and there were 7 cars parked there!
She thinks they were realtors. I would be double shocked if they were my friend isn’t even cold yet,,,

I just learned something about the abandoned junkyard. My dead friend wasn’t the 100% owner. He and his brother owned it 50/50. Had no idea. And a legal battle has begun. Seems like my dead friend owes his brother $50,000 in an “unsecured” loan.

Those were realtors. The brother wants the property sold ASAP. And a judge and lawyers will decide on the loan. The three gates are padlocked. The widow doesn’t want to sell the property. What a mess. I believe I have set my last foot upon the abandoned junkyard. Don’t want any involvement in a legal brouhaha,,,

You never know what goes on behind the scenes.

Id say that wood source is no longer as well. Im sure a new one will pop up eventually. Did a lot of your wood come from there?

    Again sorry for your loss.

I got about 30% of my wood from the junkyard. (guessing) I just talked to my brother in law and he gave me permission to cut in the 9 acre woods just south of our home. So basically I have 50 acres of hardwoods to play in.

    I’ll be fine

Maybe the future owner(s) of the junkyard would like you to remove dead trees?

Was a pretty uneventful day in da woods. The town guy picked up his rounds so my trailer was available again. I finished splitting all that I had cut and hauled two loads to the woods pile. I must procure more pallets I am full. Then I found another dead red right on the main road. I had no intention of sawing today but stuff happens! Got 23 nice rounds laid out.

Wanna see how men get killed? I am not touching this shagbark hick. Trouble is wrote all over it.
