Hello all. I need some advice. My brother found a 359 helping clean out a building. He gave me the saw and I didn't really think much of it at the time. Finally got it running last year and it's not a bad little saw. I Have other saws, but hearing good things about these after some modifications. Do these saws port well? If so any builders recommended? I didn't want to post this on FB to a bunch of random people, I trust this group much more. Thoughts?

A muffler mod will help these too. Most 359’s were equipped with a catalytic muffler that holds heat and slows exhaust. They are very nice saws.

Great saw. The semi pro version of the 357XP. I am in the Facebook groups too, and I understand your frustration with inquiring about it on there. Send me a PM if I can help you out

for reliability, make sure it has the metal intake clamp, not the plastic snap version. Also some of these had the auto decomp valve. If so, plug the cylinder on both ends of the set up.

Is holding heat an intentional thing they do? If so, what purpose does it serve?

I believe the whole idea was to help burn off more of the hydrocarbons on their way out.

Nevermind the longevity of the unit. Gotta have clean exhaust fumes.....

Holding heat is a byproduct of catalysts and that heat, then helps to burn off more nasties.

This… I always thought the cat muffler had a media in it. My friend (Bubba) cut a big hole in the side of one and the view is amazing. The cat is a perforated plate in the exhaust stream and it glows bright red in anything other than a limbing cut. Cooks off some hydrocarbons before exiting the outlet. I’m not too concerned with emissions, just want less restrictive exhaust.

eta A hollow can muffler is an easy get for a 359 and the guy porting it will make the right size outlet.
