Maybe some day but I'm not so sure I want all that responsibility. My dad and his dad both owned their own business and I've seen how that becomes your life. Making relationships with customers and then you feel responsible to take care of them when the need arises. Hard to go on vacation and enjoy your life. Kinda nice going to work and being told what to do. At the end of the day I can go home and do my own thing. I'll put my life in the hands of the Lord and see where I go.

Being boss certainly is not for everyone. There are good ones and bad ones; like everything else.

Then I guess you should get comfortable with your routine making someone else wealthy. I don't want to own or run a business either so you wont hear me complain about "working for the man" because its a choice I made and I'm happy with it.

Doesn't mean I can't connect and share... Maybe I need to find a boss that cares about their people more than themselves? :rofl: . That's a good joke.

Oh, it's possible. It's just a bit trickier, which is not aggravating if you only do it once in a blue moon.

Short beds have their place, they're great for roofers and masons. You'll run out of weight before space with those materials anyway. I've just had these discussions many times over the years, and enough people (not you) stoop to defensive, petty remarks that I've come up with a few of my own.

But for those who haul a lot of long materials, or loads of loose, lighter weight items, a long bed makes it more comfortable, especially over longer distances.
Let's put it this way, you managed to haul 16 footers, but would you try 20s? I mean, your most common lumber is 8 feet, same with sheet goods. Yes, my short bed truck can haul 20 sheets of plywood, but I have to make sure it's strapped in good and tight from the rear. My long bed, I can just shut the tailgate, and to be safe, if it's going far or fast, run a strap over the top. Yes, anything longer than that is going over the tailgate either way, but the more length inside the truck, (and the further your axle is from your cab) the more your center of gravity is on your side. Considering most arguments for short beds are about turning radius, I have to point out that an overhanging load has the same effective turning radius with more tail swing. Then they suggest using a trailer. I do when need be, but I buy a truck to avoid using one all the time. My 21' truck has a much tighter turning radius than my 18' truck with a trailer attached.

I can't think of a better comparison: It's like a person's reaching ability. A short person can reach anything a tall person can, they just need to get a ladder more often (I'm average, for the record). A short truck can do nearly anything a long truck can, but it needs extra support, and more extreme caution, more often.

Pardon the long winded post. What it boils down to is many (most?) half ton trucks go to the mall or bring kids to school more often than they carry materials. That's fine for them. It's how aggressively defensive some people get about it towards those who do routinely carry full loads. Well, I'm not losing any sleep over it.

    It was also Patriots Day.

Sorta Funny story. I went on a cruise that started in Amsterdam. We were there for a couple extra days before the cruise started. . We had one late afternoon to go for a walk so we all went down to the red light district. That was - kinda weird. Weird like one girl standing there naked all by herself in a shop window with a living room setup reading weird poetry. On the way back we checked out this old church. Then we walked by a "coffee" shop. I popped in. I expected little bags of herb for sale from what I had read about. Nothing. Just cookies, candy, brownies, etc. just snacks. Made no sense. A few years later there was a story in the news about how some little kid in Colorado had gotten into someone's edibles, ate them all and either got really sick and/or died. Wasn't till then that I figured out what edibles were and what that "coffee" shop in Amsterdam was all about. There is supposed to be two stores in town. From what I understand everything is quite expensive and not a threat to the "black market".

I don't necessarily agree with some of your logic, but I don't think I will ever buy another short bed (6'-4" on mine) truck again.
