That's about what it was too, before I sharpened his chain. It actually wasn't cutting too bad even with him nicking the dirt a couple times. I actually let him use my sawbuck and he really liked it. Might have to build him one too, if he's gonna continue his education with me. Might even let him in on my BL gold mine if he sees the light and gets ahead of the game.
More wood out at the old factory! Looked like a bunch more ailanthus and cottonwood. C'mon black locust! Know they got some!
Thought I'd post one more update on this thread, since I think some of my friends who went to the GTG might have missed it.... Did a bit of red pine GIBIR today. Not the one I mentioned upthread; pulled this one out of the woods. I think it came down this year, but I can't be sure. Still seemed pretty solid and had bark on it. A small black birch tree that it landed on still had leaves on it when I stood it back up. I worked from home today, so I sawed her up on my lunch break. Had to help my dad get a tractor unstuck right after work, so I only got about 1/2 of it out before I ran out of daylight. Thinking this might be a bit more pleasant to burn in the shoulder season compared to the poplar. Sure smelled good sawing her up. Should give better BTUs than the poplar too; Sweeps lists it as just slightly better than silver maple. Anybody know how it is to hand split? I sawed through knots where I could, or kept them close to one end.
