Last night while watching TV my wife looked over and saw smoke coming out of my charging phone. A good amount of the bottom was soft and the charger plug is now melted into the phone. If we weren't close by who knows what would happen.
Glad you caught it! Known danger of rechargeable lithium batteries. Brother lost his garage 10 years ago. Fire inspector stated it in report then.
That was very fortunate that y’all weren’t asleep this could have been a catastrophe! My wife desperately needs a new phone but is a bit stubborn about it!! Maybe I should show her this topic?
The known dangers of charging lithium batteries. Leaving them charging past when the are "full" adds to the chance that they will overheat too. Many cell phones have a setting that works with your alarm settings...only charges up to 80%, until shortly before your preset wakeup time, then it lets it go to 100%. A friend of mine had a lithium battery powered flashlight setting on his desk at his shop...it was fully charged, but not plugged in, not turned on, and started smoking/burning all on its own...fortunately he walked by right then and seen it, he was able to knock it onto the concrete floor and then punt it out the door onto the gravel driveway where it burnt up! This was not an el cheapo light either!
Probably less than a year, not sure really as we get the insurance policy because I frequently destroy them and they send me a new one. I have bad luck with phones.
Interesting. What phone was it? The last in one I heard about doing these kinds of things was a particular Samsung Galaxy about like 10 years ago. The Samsung Galaxy note 7 from 2016. After looking it up. They had a massive recall after several fires happened not even when charging.
Shouldnt leave it on the wood stove!!! Scary stuff. Glad you were there when it happened. Good reminder for the rest of us not to leave it unattended. I often bring in my 20v Dewalt batteries to either charge in the laundry room or sometimes upstairs. Guess I should do that up here while home. Dumb question. Do cell phones have a fire hazard warning with the owners manual?
