Well here it’s roughly $5,000 a year in property taxes for normal house; more for business through taxes. Without getting political, people are getting older and fastest things going up are 800 sq foot independent living retirement apartments. That are costing $500,000 per unit. The numbers don’t number..

I'm not one to dwell on politics or bad news, but yeah. That's crazy.

A sure sign of spring is seeing the crab pots go aboard.

Even if we're getting a dusting of snow tonight.

Gonna be some "no shirt weather" today while working outside soon. Supposed to hit 80° and sunny. Luckily it's windy.

Yesterday while working outside I heard a chopper, knew it was military and not your typical Blackhawk chopper.

    I was right

Chinook. This was a first for me in person. It came back later.

Do they harvest crabs all summer long there? Here it is an informal rule that you only harvest crabs in a month with an R in it although when we still had the sail boat, we would put down a crab pot occasionally in the summer.

Sounds like you're the complete opposite out there. Our season starts in April and is normally finished by August.

You must have a base close by. We don't. Our closest base has Blackhawk choppers. We see those all the time, but never Chinooks. There's a base in Madison that has f-35's which we see often. Then there's the base in Milwaukee which has kc135 refuelers, and another in Western WI that gets c117 globemasters.

This van has very few windows. And a whole lot of miles, over 389K.

School funding comes from a combination of property taxes a state funding (It is complicated). We don't have a sales or income tax so you just get the bill twice a year instead of it being split up by 26 (or 52) paychecks and/or every time you buy something.

NH has one of the lowest effective rates for taxes. I have a modest house and paid about $5,500 last year - which is less than I would have paid for state income taxes in surrounding states last year.

Wow!!! I complained when our tax rose to $1000 and I believe we have more acreage than you do.

Okay, that makes a little more sense now. Still sounds like some people pay a lot towards school, but maybe that's because I'm not used to that system.

Do you have federal income tax?

WWW literally just told me he's not helping pull anyone out of the mud here anymore (mud on shore as lake is low). Went out for a bag of pellets... went out to see and theres a sweet apologetic college girl asking for help  . So kiddo and him follwed them to see if they can get them out.

Edit, he came back for shovels :picard:

They got it out  Home at 8:30 as twilight left.

Tacoma was buried to axles. All 3 girls dug out tires (one was our kiddo). Then in tandem, one gal in boyfriends bald mudder tires up front (she did not have front hooks), then kiddo hooked up in the middle then the buried Tacoma young gal at the end in reverse. Cool!

Well, yeah, that seems like an excessive amount to me too. but, I'm an old foggie so I really don't know. Also have to keep in mind that this is an area of the country with a higher cost of living and NH is 13th highest overall between the states. And, as of 2024, NH had the 7th highest average household income. So, it might come out roughly the same as other areas of the country when that is taken into account.

As for Federal Income taxes, yes, everyone in the states pays those if they work - either for someone else or self employed.
