After stuffing my self full of ham and mashed potatoes I headed to my woods. I took 2 full saws and no gas so I knew it would a short day. I found a petrified elm that came down across a trail so he is now firewood. I saw sparks in broad daylight now the Husky needs a file.

    IMG_4137.jpeg

Then I found a twosome oak where one had lost its top and the other was in bad shape. I don’t have enough bar to drop the one side so I dropped the smaller side. He was getting hollow halfway up.
    IMG_4139.jpeg

You can tell I am a below average feller but I got it down right where I wanted am I am still breathing.

    IMG_4140.jpeg

Got 30 nice rounds and a bunch of limb wood.

    IMG_4138.jpeg

In that last pic you can see the other half still standing. A buddy with a huge bar on a blue Chinese knock off Stihl is going to drop it for me. For beer!

I think the junkyard should be dry enough tomorrow to start hauling some splits in. That’s my plan anyway

Today was a pretty boring day. All I did was haul 6 loads from the junk yard to my pile. No cutting.

    IMG_4142.jpeg

My not so monster woods pile is growing but I need to cut some more.

    IMG_4144.jpeg

    IMG_4143.jpeg

What have we here? Why is a Maasdam, tow strap, log chains, and a choker in my trailer?

    IMG_4145.jpeg

I found a big black locust up rooted and hung up in a small elm. I cut the elm down, cut the locust loose of his root mass, and he pivoted and hung up in a black walnut. I am not dropping a black walnut to put a locust on the ground. Ain’t gonna happen. So I tried to pull the locust down with the Maasdam and was unsuccessful. Mother Nature is gonna have to step up to the plate I am done with it.

Doesn't sound to boring to me... outside, playing with toys...err...equipment, enjoying GOD'S beautiful creations and hoarding farwood...sounds like an excellent day to me.
Could you cut sections off the BL trunk to get it to drop and /or get lighter where the puller would work?

That would be my next step. I cut solo. If I could find somebody to help me that would be great. I’ve done this before and had some close calls. I told the wife last night Ima just gonna walk away from the BL I do have some oaks already on the ground in my woods that will get my attention first.

I wouldn't call that a boring day at all. Any day out in the woods doing firewood stuff beats a day indoors.

Another day another dollar. I picked up the last of my firewood from the junkyard. Not sure if I will cut anymore there. I had a choice haul one huge load or two smallish loads. I choose small.

    IMG_4146.jpeg IMG_4147.jpeg
Then I took down a scarred elm for the guy from town.

    IMG_4148.jpeg
    IMG_4149.jpeg

Picked up a load in my woods.

    IMG_4150.jpeg

Then got after the dead red I dropped on Easter. Got two big loads I’m not gonna lie it split really hard. I was gassed. We are good now that I have beer.

The monster pile is growing but there is more work to do.

    IMG_4153.jpeg
The guy from town just left with his first load. He wants 4 more. His wife is in bad shape the chemo and radiation has made her blind. Never heard of that happening before. He was in tears talking about his bride. Sad

You have really been busy, nice work as usual, my friend.
Yes, that's very sad about his wife. May she get some healing.

I have to take today off. My hands and wrists are on a sit down strike. I’ll just go to the shed and blow out and sharpen 3 saws.
Rain is coming anyway according to the radar.

A day of rest and working on saws is a good thing. That's what I do on rainy days

The rain held off and the guy from town picked up another load. After a beer with him, gee my hands felt better! So off we go.
I dropped an oak that had lost his top and cut up an oak that was on the ground. And I dropped a shagbark and put it right on top of the oak. The Husky was super sharp it showed that hick who was boss. I got 67 rounds out of those three trees.

    IMG_4157.jpeg IMG_4156.jpeg

It was 69 degrees and I was out of water so I called it day. But I loaded up some elm rounds for the town guy Monday. We are going up to our cabin so he has to wait.

    GUILTY AS CHARGED!

And I am going to drop another shaggy in close proximity of my woods pile. To get more sun in.

While waiting for my bud to show up with his blue Stihl, I dropped a dead white oak that was in the landing zone for the big red. I even had most of split when he showed up.

    IMG_4159.jpeg IMG_4164.jpeg

It split real easy for white oak. Then we studied the red. I’ve never run his saw so I asked “could I”? He let me nock it then I showed him how to do a bore cut. He was right on (with some coaching) but when he came out the back side I could see and he could feel the tree teetering. We backed off right away I walked 100 yards or so to the Honda and got 2 felling wedges. I put the first one in a likely spot and hit it twice. Put the second one in hit it once and crack down she came. Turns out the wind was against us but nobody got hurt.

His holding wood looked good IMO but those damm hollowing trees you just never know,,

    IMG_4160.jpeg

    She’s down.

    IMG_4161.jpeg

The first two cuts off the stump had 100’s of ants. I got 29 rounds and a small jag of limb wood. It took two tanks of fuel thru my 445 Rancher to round it. IMG_4162.jpeg

    IMG_4163.jpeg

sorry for the fuzzy ant pic. Lots of work here I will start on those rounds Monday.
