Family had scrapple all throughout growing up. I've always thought it was nasty, still do. Y'all aren't missing anything.. It's just butcher scraps (insert all things except meat here) mixed with corn meal and spices. I've seen what goes in so yeah, not my thing.
For some reason, this popped into my head around 0200 this morning. I remember when the corned beef hash MRE came out (circa 1991). Tasted nasty when eating it cold, but using the MRE heater, warmed up it actually wasn't bad. Still a step up from the dehydrated beef or pork patties (aka the hockey pucks) or the (gross) hot dogs (aka the four fingers of death). I guess when you've eaten countless MREs over the years, stuff like corned beef in a can is a luxury (plus it brings back memories as we had it growing up). Okay, I'm done with hijacking the thread.
I failed thus far. North East and Moab area remain as desired destinations. Eventually I'll get froggy and just take off.
Sorry to hear that. We'll still be here when you decide to visit. Today is April 7th. It snowed this morning and is only in the 40s with wind gusts but we're still here. I have this theory about living in New England, actually two theories. Every winter I can't help but believe those of us who live here are being punished for something bad we did in a past life and every summer I can't help but think we're being rewarded for something good we did in a past life.
I'm with you. Being born and raised up here, I feel more like we're being rewarded during the fall/winter and punished during summer (never had this kind of humidity when I was growing up and there are a lot of bugs now that weren't around back then).
I used to love summer up here, but I think September and October are the nicest months now. It's like the humidity suddenly gets turned off about mid September.
Sounds like we musta mailed our humidity up there last couple summers. I've been pleased with our weather which has been fairly dry in summer like I remember them being past two years. I had almost forgotten what a dusty summer looked like until last year. Kinda hard on the farmers but great otherwise.
I like the heat for the most part. I'm into road cycling and have no problem riding when it's in the high 90's or even when it hit 102 a few years ago with humidity. I can't stand being cold. But it's also the amount of natural light in addition to the temperature. My mental well being is very sensitive to the lack/shortage of natural sunlight in the winter. I do much, much better during the summer.
I’m skiing at Killington right now and am very happy they got 3” of snow last night and the peak barely made it to freezing.
