Those are world class cars, those corollas. The one I had got traded in with 287K on the clock. No issues except a rusted dog leg.

The weather is amazing here today. Sunny, breezy, and warm. Supposed to maybe get some spicy storms tonight. High 86 today, high 46 tomorrow. Those big swings are really messing with my acclimation. Summer to winter in 24 hours.

I'm strongly considering taking tomorrow off to go spend the day in the woods.

    Awkward moment...

drove past a hitchhiker on the way home. I don't pick them up. Shortly after I got home, we went for a walk and met him again. Still trying to hitchhike when anyone drove past.

Maybe a lemon, maybe standard for that year. I guess that's one of the reasons I like to buy used (besides cost). It's nice to be able to research what issues they have. I've bought 2 new vehicles between 2004 and 2010 that did not last nearly as long as they should have (under 5 years - but over milage), and would have cost big bucks if I had chosen to fix. Actually, the Jeep Patriot couldn't be fixed since a transmission couldn't be found - either new or reman. So that makes me leery about buying anything new any more.

I want to say my Sis's vehicle are pre 2020, and maybe her husband's too. Their places of work (actually, he retired a couple of years ago) and city amenities are pretty close, so they don't do a whole lot of miles on either of them.

I ran into the same issue with my 04 Jeep TJ Rubicon. The front differential grenaded and the parts for the front locker were discontinued and could not be sourced by the dealership (this happened around 2021). After the dealership had the Jeep for a very (very) long time and never got it fixed, I had to source the parts myself and then had to have the Jeep hauled to southern NH to a Jeep aftermarket shop to pay a ridiculous amount and get it fixed. All those fancy amenities in vehicles nowadays are nice, until they don't work anymore. I'm not opposed to new vehicles (my Ram 2500 is a 2024), but am very leery about the bells and whistles they cram into them (I went with the base model Tradesman on purpose...it's a truck, and gets used as a truck).

    Exactly.
And if parts are still available now, they won't be in 20-30+ years, like they still are for 1980-1990s vintage pickup trucks...

Jeep (Stellantis) is always number 1 or 2 in the Least reliable car manufacturer. I wouldn’t buy one for that reason

I'd love to find an old square-bodied Chevy/GMC or even an old Jeep J10 or J20 to fix/restore and use for my daily driver/firewood rig. I could care less about all the fancy stuff in the new trucks.

Exactly. While I liked the then new 19 ram rebel, there were none available without the air suspension, and the regular shocks, and the ram boxes. I'd had to have ordered it, glad I went with the slightly used f150 instead. That ram probably would have had major issues by now

I just can't imagine driving that low to the asphalt nor that low compared to truck tires. There's a Jeep Gran Cherokee 2002 for $2500 here. Of all things RWD.

    New engine, the rest orig.

Quite frankly my sisters driving skills are not impressive, all she cared about was low cost to purchase, low cost of repairs and good gas mileage. All 3 hit her magic mileage number and she has pictures of odometer 333,333.33 she’s had 3 since 1991.

It's one thing when a vehicle has had a nearly 20 year life. Completely different when it was a a 4.5 year old vehicle. I barely got it paid off before I had to get another vehicle because that one couldn't be fixed. I held onto the vehicle for 6 months looking for parts (along with my mechanic). Jeep literally was not making new transmissions of that configuration, and it wasn't old enough for remans to be made. It was just my stupid "luck" that the transmission was "special" and not the one that they put into most of the Patriots. The only way to know that was to find that information thru the VIN - there was nothing on the sticker or in literature that suggested there were different ones on the market. It wasn't anything souped up or special ordered either.

Some of my old friends in the UP sent me pictures of robins and they still have several feet of snow on the ground. We've had them for a couple weeks. Also it appears the sandhill cranes have left to make their final trip further north. We do have some here all summer.
