My apologies for a crappy picture. Pile of mulberry and whatever this stuff is over at the bus yard where I work. I picked most of the mulberry but wasn't sure what this was. Could it be some kind of locust?
Based on just the bark, I’d say it’s probably black locust. Siberian elm and old mulberry also have similar bark though.
I hope so, suppose to be good stuff. I grabbed a bit just in case! There is a bit of it left, had been sitting around for a while & starting to get a little punky but I think most of it might be ok so might head back
Id bet all in that its black locust. Good stuff there Chuck. Best get the rest ASAP. Post pics when you split to confirm.
BL doesn't go to punk unless parts of the tree had punky voids when living. Be mindful if the bark comes off and its banana peel slimy underneath. It wreaks of decaying flesh. Well worth it as the bark is soft and takes up a lot of volume when stacked.
O snap, I am on it.......................Not that much but I'll take it. Never had BL, always heard how good it is. I am BL virgin, LOL!
It hand splits easily should you need to section up any big rounds. The bark is kinda useless IMO. Its soft and smells when burned. I was told that and tried a couple pieces in my fire pit and it stunk. Good luck my friend! Wanna see pics.
I was cutting a large mulberry tree that fell over in a neighbor’s yard. It had the traditional look, yellowish wood, shaped like a mulberry tree. The neighbor lady said it wasn’t a mulberry tree because it never dropped fruit? Low & behold there are male & female mulberry trees, not all produce fruit. I didn’t take it further with her, but I was going by more than the fruit drop, plus the only other tree around here with similar wood is Osage orange trees, which this wasn’t. Anyway, it was big, a fair amount of good firewood.
Went back for seconds! Like I said this wood has been sitting awhile and cut small but hec it was beautiful out today so I loaded up a bit. Looks like BL and mulberry! Not sure what the one is I put an arrow on it.
Saw this over at the local park, looks like maple to me. There is a bit more floating around already bucked up! I tried to grab someone to get permission to take but couldn't find a sole Try again another day!
The one you have the arrow pointed towards looks like it could be honey locust. This is one high btu score. Congratulations!
Thanks fellas' much appreciated. Your right it just keeps getting better lol! Again I took some of it but not knowing what it was I left a bit. It's not going anywhere so I'll go back for 3rds.....!
If a tree is scrounged from a park with no one there to hear it,,,,,,,,was it ever really scrounged to begin with?
