Yeah that barn needs a lot of work. I mostly just keep lumber in it so it's hard to justify putting any time or money in it.

Last year I did the other side of the roof with some used metal. All the purlins needed to be replaced because they were so dry rotted...that's probably a big part of what caused this side to fail today.

crap, fell earlier tonight. Knees are working but will be bruised and sore - they took the brunt. It's becoming clear from increasing pain I injured ,of all things. a toe. Phew, lucky in my book if anything was broke/fractured to just be a toe. And at that the last joint (tip bone part).

Incidently seems I was talking in my sleep last night. WWW could not make it out till the end when I said "crap!" in my sleep

Now if there was just an ocean nearby you could claim you have beach front property and sell for a gazillion dollars.

Uggh, I don't even know how you would begin to clean that up.

I'm not so sure it would be a savings of work. Move log in; tie rope or cable; climb up to jump; unhook rope or cable; repeat. Then you still have to buck up the firewood, etc. Seems it would be quicker and easier to cut to length, etc as normal. But perhaps the fun part outweighs the negatives.

I did not...The wind was crazy on Friday. We lost power for about 6 1/2 hours on Friday and for 3 or 4 yesterday, The gusts on Friday took my Blackstone for an airborn ride across the deck.

How did you fare down in Orville??

Take it easy a couple of days and let things heal up. We don't bounce like we use to.

We just lost a few limbs, and about 2/3 of my woodpile covers were off...all in all, not bad!

After the second grill flew off the elevated deck. Installed a railing to prevent that scenario

Well I think I've come to the conclusion that I'm ready for some change. What I've been doing has been getting me by but with not much extra. I know I could do much better. Not sure what it all entails at this point but I should probably start with what this house is worth as is and with it minimally remodeled.

While I absolutely love this house and it's immediate location, I'm not real fond of winter or snow. Add to it this house is way overkill for me. 2200 sq/ft house and 600ish sq/ft garage. Id rather have it opposite with the garage being the larger of the two. I'm not sure if I should sell the way it is, remodel and sell, or remodel and short term rent hoping to hold onto the property. I called the realtor who sold me this house back in '13 and we're supposed to meet tomorrow to discuss this.

That's an idea I've had now for several years and it's just not going away. To add to that, I've just realized that my job/income is just barely scraping me by with what I like to do.

I currently work for a small time flooring guy. It's me another guy, and the boss. While I don't mind working with them the hours are inconsistent most time. Don't always get 40 but get some overtime here and there. Don't have insurance or any paid time off. I'm pretty sure I can do better but won't know till I start looking.

Should probably talk with the boss this week and see what he's thinking for work flow the next couple months. Only thing that throws a wrench into it is I like to take 3-4 days off a month to ride dirt bikes. If I lived where I only had to drive 20 min to ride I wouldn't want that much time off. Driving 3 hours plus one way to ride burns a whole day. Only get one day to ride on a typical 2 day weekend. Then it's not worth the gas money in my opinion.

    Boot recommendation request:

Saturday a log rocketed off my splitter and got me in some toes. Bruising / broken nails / cursing was the result- nothing serious.
I have boots I wear but there is no reinforcement in the toe box. Composite? Steel? What's the recommendation?

I'm a weekend warrior- there's no serious long days work like some of you guys- I just don't want to bust the heck out of my toes again. Looking around online- I don't know where to begin.

Composite are usually warmer than steel. Steel protect better from a saw chain.
