Yes I use oxy acetylene and a #0 tip with a 1" flame and go slow. I use 45% silver solder .062" diameter.
I didn't know you could do that with stainless...nice! what about flux? I got pretty decent with an oxy-acetylene torch from my hvac days brazing copper pipe. I brazed my 361 muffler pipe...cant remember what I used for solder but I think it was some sort of silvaloy
I ordered up a spare muffler tonight for my 455. Guess I am going to jump on this muffler mod band wagon.
This reminds me of you... My 359 is not loud with a 5/8 hole and a deflector... I was pleasantly surprised. You're the one who gave me the idea.
Mike, I'd love to get a link from you on the stuff you use to do that. My silver soldering ain't so nice.
Looks good for this small stuff. I've had to use much bigger for work. have had to go for the big rose bud on occasion! Me likes fire...
Some have said you can weld on these...maybe someone can but not me. I'd be blowing holes all in these with my welder
If you notice most mufflers are furnace brazed from the factory. I advise against welding with wire. I have seen some real nice tig welds tho!
Fellow friend of mine challenged me and asked if id do a 5105 dolmar muffler. I accepted the challenge and sat the muffler on top my tool box at work and pondered this epa mess of a pain in the rear for a week trying to decide how to even make this look good.... Here us what I come up with. Almost 2 hours time, 37.00 worth of silver solder and 6 of them little dremel cut off tools later here is my product.
