I was supposed to be in Mexico this Thursday for a week. Had to cancel that due to craziness in Puerto Vallarta. I'll still have a birthday over that time, but I won't be spending it in Mexico. The way it looks Mexico should be off of everyone's travel plans for a couple of years.

We got a good coating of snow/ice/sleet last night. Roads were pretty slick on my way to the Amish lumber yard this morning. I kept it between the ditches and made it home with a trailer full of lumber.

Weather is supposed to be all rain, all the time this week. I've seen forecasts for 4"-6" of rain by Friday.

This evening's project is a bit of a weird one....I have to make 2 church pews about 1/2 their original length. Shouldn't be terrible to do, but no room for mistakes getting them taken apart. Very impossible to match materials and finish (old oak veneer) if I tear something up.

I'll try. Sometimes when I get on a roll I forget to take pictures.

It's nice to see that people are agreeing with my choice. It sucks. I was looking to going and getting a start to my tan earlier, and enjoying warm weather, but considering what just happened and where we were going to stay, it was the wise call. It's a hassle getting my $ back or in credit at least. Having to deal with 2 different airlines makes it more of a hassle. I already got my hotel $ back.

I'm planning a trip to Florida now, just a bit later. But well before it gets really nice here in WI.

Agree that. You made a good decision. Simply just not worth the risk.

Full moon tonight. As I sat down to light a fire this evening I looked to my left and noticed this.

I thought these were going to be terrible getting apart, but thankfully they aren't that well built. Just 6 screws hold the ends on.

Both ends off now. The hymnal rack was a couple hidden screw, but if you take it apart in the right order it comes off easy.

I measured and cut what I could with the circ saw, then finished with the flush cut saw. Fit up is acceptable, but not perfect.

Both back together, hard part done. Don't mine the scratches, it's just dust.

    Resize and reinstall the racks.

Way faster than I figured. Only a couple hours. Just need to do the kneelers now.

I applaud your choice of hammers. Hard to beat those old Eastwings! Nice job of trimming, too. I spend a lot of time on Sundays looking at the pews and how they're put together. And the stained glass windows... LOL

Will you be reclaiming the cut-offs and make a shorter pew/bench?

Nope. I don't have any matching ends or any need/desire to make any. They will probably just get tossed in the dumpster at church. These aren't heirloom quality pieces, so no big deal. I did get them finished and ready to leave the shop this AM.

I won't be able to deliver them for a while...supposed to rain...every day...all week. Forecast shows 4"-6" of rain by the end of the weekend. It's already hella muddy out there, probably going to be some flooding.

I'm usually much tanner than most, early in the year and I extend the tan as long as possible.

What's really bad is the farmer tans when they go out boating in a nice day. That's a bit shocking.
