I shoot IDPA on a regular bases, so I bought 25 regulation cardboard targets for practice a while back. I have a roll of pasters, and pretty much wear a target out before I chuck it. I am about out of those 25, so I looked in to buying a steel target. Found a neat stainless steel base that has a holder in the middle for a 2x4 and a holder on each side for a 1x1 to accommodate a cardboard target. I also purchased a 12x20 piece of 3/8" thick AR500 steel plate. It is rated for up a 308 at 100+ yards. All total I'm in it for under $170.

Really enjoy the instant feed back of banging away at a steel plate.

9MM is no match for it.

Very nice, all the way around! AR plate is not cheap but worth the cost, you did good.
Where'd you get the silhouette ? Do they offer 1/4"? Thinking portable "poppers" for 9mm only.

What thickness did you get. This is where I've got steel targets from before.http://jcsteeltargets.mycustomevent.com/ He'll get your moneys worth in a flat rate box. I had 68 lbs in one large flat rate box. USPS lady wasn't happy. I've shot them at 200 yards with a 338 lapua with no damage.

Ordered the silhouette from http://www.magnumtarget.com/. They are located in my home state, so it was nice to keep my money local.

The 3/8" will take about anything besides a high speed 22 caliber round. A 22-250 will blow through it at 100 yards but a 338 lapua will just make a splash. Most guys shooting 50BMG use 1/2". A lot of guys go to 1/4" when they get past 1k yards since it moves more when hit.

Banged away at it with some more 9mm and a little 556 today. It looks to have held up fine.

Fresh coat of paint and it will be like new. I've taught dozens of kids and women to shoot using a chunk of steel welded to a chain and hung so as to move and rattle when hit. No walking down range to check for holes, instant gratification, fun making it dance, etc.

All ready painted it. I had forgot to bring the paint when I went shooting yesterday. I usually give it a touch up after each string of fire. Helps monitor grouping.
