We call him "Red"... red oak, that is.
We got finished with Mr. White, for now, so we invited his cousin down for play time...
    Moved some down yesterday 20260212_140800.jpg
Other end of the row... 20260212_140723.jpg
All the big logs and some of the smaller logs came from 1tree, where we helped my cousin clean up the old family cemetery.
I touched up a 25" chain for the XS400 too, maybe it will be hungry..

We are going to make 16" splits from these. We have 6 of the 330gal totes empty, how many do ya'll guess will get filled? I'm going to at least put the big logs in totes to see how much they produce.

That was a heck of a tree! That’ll be some fun when you cut all of that to length

This was the biggest log in the row... 20260213_200319.jpg 20260213_200338.jpg 20260213_200419.jpg 20260213_200447.jpg
The dynamic duo that came out to play last night...Echo XS2511T with measuring gauge and Stihl XS400 with 25" bar. Also 48" cant hook. 20260213_210522.jpg
We got all the big logs bucked, took about 1 hr, 2 1/2 tanks of gas in the XS400, got 33 rounds cut. 20260213_211234.jpg
Split one of the medium size rounds 20260213_212852.jpg
All these splits are from that round... 20260213_212838.jpg
Hope to tackle more Monday on my day off.

Measured the log where we got the first split round from... 20260216_082412.jpg
    Counted and stacked...
    42 splits 20260216_082330.jpg
Had to take a long break, my sister-in- law had gotten released from the hospital, we had to go pick her up and get her settled in her house...
But we got back on it when we got home...
    Nice red oak... 20260216_181702.jpg
    Got that tote finished...took 8 rounds, I think... 20260216_184719.jpg
Started on another tote...Blueberry Samson really earned his name... 20260216_192520.jpg
I'm glad it has a 700# log lift...got brave or :loco: :loco: ...:whistle: and rolled the biggest round over...32x36...it grunted lifting it, just went nice and slow, didn't want it to roll off back side. 20260216_195826.jpg
And the light tower is great... 20260216_195906.jpg
Took few pushed with the 4way wedge, but it finally went through, butt cut has some twisted grain... 20260216_200054.jpg
    More to come this morning

I like that light tower idea. Would be great for summertime when it's too hot to work during the day. But then, I try not to fool with wood much in the summertime anyway. LOL.

That’s a big oak! Nice looking wood too!
What’s the weight on that full tote?

I know what you mean, but we have to get it when we can, between work schedule and weather. Got a lot of totes and 2 big sheds to fill. It's nice out at night with that big 42" fan running...

My cousin that gave us these trees had told me the family wanted a couple slices off the big oak, he came by yesterday morning, we cut a couple slices off a 25" round. While I had on the PPE, decided to buck the rest of the smaller logs... 20260217_101746.jpg
Miz Carol came out and helped me stack. We finished the 2nd tote... 20260217_114145.jpg
We got about 1.3" of rain Sunday, it doesn't take much for our mud season on the black woodyard dirt...especially with a tote of green oak on the forks... 20260217_114501.jpg 20260217_114531.jpg
Started on the 3rd tote... 20260217_125100.jpg
The big rounds we have left...maybe have to go single wedge on some of them and some pieces will be noodled. Big knots on some of the rounds. 20260217_125109.jpg
Hope to get more done today

HEAVY...with those pieces being mostly squared up, they stack tightly. The Kubota will barely pick it up enough to move it...LA766 Loader...the 1000 series might do it...those are the 330gal tote...the 275gal, it will handle better.

It looks like that loader is rater for about 2k at the pins, is that right? Is it limited by psi or rear end weight?
I have filled my totes with oak and it is right about at the limit of my bobcat 610. Heavy for sure. I think mine are about 42 cu ft or 315 gallons if my math is right. They are big black things, like what seed is shipped in.
