I hope I don't get dis-owned! I had plan next week to install my oslo in the basement, but those plans have changed. I have thought Of a stand alone gas, don't really want to install a second furnace. Kinda torn on what to do, but in a week or two I'm installing 500'+ of gas line. Any suggestion on a stove under a $1000? It is bittersweet cause I've been working hard and got around 10 cords up that's two plus years old. Gonna keep the oslo where she sits now just in case, and maybe try to get all my wood in a shed to keep good and dry!

10 cords huh? Where's your wood pile located? You don't want all that nasty wood rotting on your property or taking up valuable room in your shed.!! We'll take it off your hands!!:p

I have two close friends who have free natural gas on their property.... I think it's so cool. One runs everything on gas. Furnace, stove, dryer, gas grill, heated garage, hot tub, hot water... Everything.

The other friend's well is not so prolific.. He has enough pressure to run his furnace roughly 3 or 4 hours a day and then he loses pressure. Basically, enough for shoulder season and hot water year round. He supplements with wood in the winter.

I have a VC ventless natural gas stove and I really like it. Why wouldn't you just heat with your furnace if you are getting free natural gas? There's a ton of choices for a natural gas stove, you just need to decide if you want it vented or ventless.
    Pro's and cons to both.

The problem is I don't have a natural gas furnace......yet! I have a heat pump that is only two years old. I don't mind getting a furnace, I just want to ride it out this year and see how good the well is. I need something to heat with this year that I can set on hell and see if the well can keep up.

I have an existing berea well on my property that is 40 some years old, the only want the oil out of it.

It is a little disheartening, I'm gonna build a shed and stack it all in! I'm gonna continue cutting because I enjoy it, who knows I may just sell a few cords each year that are seasoned for new toys.

Get your priorities straight. Put in a gas fired kiln so you'll always have dry wood on short notice. :)

I thought of your post today when I was lighting the pilot on my VC gas stove to fire it up for the first time this season.
I have had this for about 15 years and really like it. Maybe something like this will work for you? :)

You never know what is going to happen. Keep the option to burn wood.

Is that fake firewood next to the fake wood burner?
If it's real, at least you're hoarding wood wherever you can.

It's real wood, and don't think I haven't thought of throwing it in that stove a few times... Might make for a gooder fire than the gas, other than the lack of a flue....:dancer:

Should have known better not to post that picture on here....:picard:

With that thing, you don't need to season your wood at all... Just toss it in and the gas will take care of the rest!!!

I like that a lot, just worried about the ventless and burning full time?

The wood stove isn't going anywhere, and it is bittersweet! But, I'm going to take advantage of this situation for as long as I can. I'm gonna keep css wood, I may even sell a little.

I agree. I would vent it if your burning all the time.
