Beautiful winter day for firewood.

Finally got some good weather and time to get some firewood made. We've had a good cold winter so far, but we've been busy with work. We will likely have to get into next year's supply this year, so we went to work.
Lina plowed out the log yard, I ran heater on the tractor and splitter for a couple hours and away we went. Started at daylight at about 6 degrees and worked till mid morning. Made about a cord from my log piles.

Great job, I put up 6 cord behind garage on warm winters we burn 4. But we burned 1/2 cord in last 2 weeks BUT spring is coming
Good thing about 2 months of hard cold we should see a reduction in ticks.

Yeah, at 15/20 cord per year I can't store that much split wood.

 

4-5 is typical for me. That’s a lot of wood!

I don't mind making firewood when its cold, but the snow usually keeps me away, especially a large amount like we got Sunday (15" +/-). Only some chunks to process and some splits to stack/organize. Gotta get my butt in gear and fill the empty racks. WAY behind in filling up the bundle wood shed too.

Thanks. I haven't been around here much. I added a 3 bay addition on to my shop and that consumed most of my life for 6 months lol. It got done late October after the usual zoning & construction delays etc. Then the Holidays, family matters & so on. We're back on a more normal routine now finally.
As to the weather, this is my absolute favorite weather to work in. Issue is we've had a lot of wind that's made it dangerous. Snow is easily plowed off the log & truck yards so that doesn't bother. Takes a little planning for starting equipment when it's around zero, but I have a decent system for doing that. Learned a lot from Rope and Cold Trigger Finger 's posts from Alaska. I'll take this weather over 80's & humid anytime.

We have a big fan for bugs and humidity. I'd look like Michelin Man if I was trying to work up there...

This is cold enough to THINK about processing farwood...I haven't actually made it to the woodyard yet...

 

No processing here either..when this 7” of snow melts we’ll get to enjoy mud season for a while like our northern friends. I’ve got several Helene hardwoods down that I procrastinated on so now it looks like it will be a little longer before they get handled.

 

Fewer ticks would be wonderful!

 

So discouraging. I know quite a few vibrant hardworking outdoor folks who have really gotten messed up from tick related issues. Little bastages!!
