Two loads for helper pal, 8 degrees when we started, but splitter started! We just split and hauled, but glad I didn’t have to start chainsaw. Would have had to bring em inside overnight I reckon. Stay safe in the storm!
I remember those times when we used to keep saws in the house during winter. Now I do my best to not start a saw or splitter during winter.
I've never had an issue starting the saws outside in the cold. But the splitter. All 4 stroke and some better at cold starting than others. The predator 6.5 HP on the didier is easy to start in cold. The old briggs 5 HP on that Didier splitter was a bear and hated starting in cold weather around teens and under. Once you got it going it was fine though. The Tecumseh on the mtd was decent to start. Until recently that is.
Saws stay in the heated garage so no problem with them starting. Haven't tried to start the splitter when it's this cold. Starts right up when it is in the 30's though. Enough other projects inside so no need to work firewood in these temps.
Manual chokes or primers make cold starting easier.. Dad said we’re required on cold weather equipment
Saws stay in a unheated shed then travel in the back of the truck to the cut lot couple extra pulls and a couple extra minutes to warm them up and all good Then new splitter has electric start so not bad starting in the cold
