the wind has been steady with gusts. Sounds pretty quiet right now, which is nice. That wind noise starts to get to you after a while. The coyotes were behind my shop last night catching rabbits and making a racket. I stuck my head out and roared at them and they shut right up and left. My wife said I scared the cat pretty bad as well. It was on her lap when I roared and I guess it freaked out a bit.
yooperdave how cold did you guys get? We heard cracking and booming all night. We were out with the rabbits last night and there was a frost quake right under our feet!
For the first time in a long time we're going to see some low temps. It's below freezing here in CT right now and it's slated to stay that way for the next 10 days or so. Tomorrow the low is supposed to be 4 with wind. Geared up for my Saturday morning hike with my uncle. Got the stove ripping- 73 on the wall, 21 outside right now. Projecting somewhere around a foot / foot + a half on Sunday. Getting ready to get some of that northern Midwest weather I read about. It reminds me of my motorcycle forum's phrase of choice: "Adventure Motorcyclists: Boldly Going Where Other People Live"
Currently 17 out with the real feel of 0. Wind at 18 and slowing. Low tomorrow morning of 0 with the real feel of -15. Oak and more oak tonight. 71 inside. Predicting 18-24 inches of snow Sunday afternoon into Monday. Stay safe and warm!
I just hauled my Amish buddy to town for supplies. On the way down and back my Taco therm said 19 below zero two times. At home here I got 13 below. uffda
It got as warm as -8° late in the afternoon. 70° inside Fir and box elder over ash, and oak coals. -12° outside now. Feels like -27°. I'll be watching to see how cold it gets down to tonight/ tomorrow morning. The pups know to go out and get their business done right away.
Good grief Horkn . We might get that once a year. It is 6 f right now with several days like this in our future. All chunks are in the boiler. We have one small bedroom right off the furnace so it gets warm fast. I plan to warm it up , close the door to keep heat in, and turn the furnace way down . It will minimize the work from the furnace. we have a clear day until the evening tomorrow , then the snow comes. . Reports from everyone 24 hours from now will be interesting
View attachment 463427 -17 outside about 68-70 inside. Burning Maple and boxelder in the insert. Natural gas forced air furnace might have cycled a few times too but that will help keep the lower level from getting too cold
-14°F out , Windchill I guess is about -25°F , 74°F inside The wind did finally die down here only at 3 mph now, they say high Tomorrow 6 °F Man I about burned my face off Raking the coals around
Just checked on the critters. The chickens are in front of their heat lamp and the rabbits are ok in their hutches/pens. Thermometer says -40 outside and there is a very strong draft across the floor. Lots of popping and creaking from the house. It always does that when it gets this cold. The snow screams like styrofoam when you walk on it. A little warmer than the -46 or so last night, but at these temps it doesn’t really matter.
-25 Heading for -31 before it turns around. Real feels of -49 at the moment. isaaccarlson We used to live in a river valley bottom. It was always 10-15 degrees colder than surrounding area. When leaving for work, I would watch the outside temp gauge on the car rise as soon as I drove out of that valley.......and of course, lower once I returned home! That house was notorious for nails "popping" once it got cold also.
14/70, bed of oak coals and some larger oak splits. Waiting to see what mother nature brings us this evening.
It appears from the surrounding area it is from -12 to -24 here. We are on the cold end. I am stoking the fire.
