Yes, all of that hard work pays off now. At work everyone is talking about how child their house is, frozen pipes, furnace running a lot. As soon as I walk by, they all say " oh you don't have these problems with your wood stove and firewood"

    Nope. I don't.

Yup, the time for air sealing, extra insulation, preventative measures for freezing water lines...and yes, even sewer lines has passed-for many.

23/73 just threw a giant ash split on to a nice deep bed of oak coals. Not looking forward to work on Friday.

Had to drive on snow covered roads while more was falling yesterday when I had to go to (gasp!) Lansing. Got home okay to put more wood in stove. I survived. Now for the mess starting tonight. cold and more cold.

19 outside this AM. Mystery square wood in the boiler.

We are right on the line for snow this weekend, but it looks like it is going to get cold for sure. Single digit lows through the weekend.

The digital thermometer says -40° outside, and I believe it. We went out to take care of the rabbits and my face and fingers absolutely frozen in minutes. Most of the house is nice and toasty, but the far end is a bit chilly just because it is so far from the stove, not well insulated, lots of glass, and two doors between it and the stove.

29/70, mix of small ash and oak splits. Calm before the storm, temp in the mid 40s today. They are predicting 8-12 inches of snow tomorrow into Sunday with 1/2 or so of ice. Low temps next week in the single digits. I know that weather is normal for some of yall but not here in central Va. It will shut everything down for days......

5/70. Bumped up the natural gas last night to make sure pipes don’t freeze. In addition to work and stuffing the insert all day I decided to make a giant pot of chicken broth to add more heat to the house.

Glad that it didn't get to the -60's feel like they warned about. The temps dropped really fast yesterday evening.

Bad part of it is, I do have to shovel and plow again! Looks like 7" additional since yesterdays clean up. Poor truck! :headbang:

The walk to and from the mail was challenging to say the least!

19 / 65 inside. Oak on last nights coals to take the edge off. Full load of mixed splits when the oak burns down.
