It seems that my beloved Burris Signature Zee rings are going the way of the Dodo. Looking for alternatives. They are basically all I've used for a couple decades. They are offering a new 'extreme' version but of course at a higher cost. I made these rings my go to due to them having poly inserts that fit between the optic and the metal ring. Absolutely No Mar mounting. You can also use different thicknesses and orientations to overcome barrel alignment or elevation issues. What you like? What you use? I'm used to paying roughly $50 for the Zee's. I have a couple pair of some Warne's that I have not yet mounted to anything.
Man, that's a bummer. I like those rings and used them often back when I was actively buying and setting up guns. Now I have trouble trying to find time to shoot the ones I have! The last setup I did on a 1885 .22LR I used S&K rings because they are the sleekest setup I've ever seen. The ring is split only at the bottom, and is clamped in and tightened around the scope by opposing screws in the base, so there's room for lateral adjustment, and good fit fbetween ring and scope. They look pretty quality. Made in oosa so that's good. I will throw them into the pile of consideration.
Yep, when I talked to them on the phone, I got the impression it was a small family-owned operation. They're made in PA by the folks that sell them.
If I do go with them I'd have to remove a factory pic rail. Not out of the question, but their proprietary mount means I paid for something I can't use. I do like these type of manufacturers. The rail I got for my 77/357 was out of a small specialty shop.
I have a set of these on... uhh... I forget which one. DNZ. US Made and quality. Might be on the 10/22 I built.
I can certainly understand that - they're certainly not interchangeable or universal. To me they're a little more of a niche application, but if you want the cleanest most compact look for a certain rifle I think these are it. I saw a photo of them on an 1895 Marlin with a compact Burris scope and was amazed by how sleek they were. Putting them on an AR, say, might not be as fitting. I was just reminded of them when you mentioned the Signature rings because these S&Ks do have some windage adjustment capability.
The Burris Signature rings are very unique with the poly inserts. They work great and are steel. I sure don’t know of any other rings that are similar. I do like Warne rings, too.
I just ordered 3 sets of the sigzee off fleabay. Got two high and 1 low set. Medium is what I normally use. Hopefully won't mess up my feng shue. There's one set in Canada ebay but shipping is like 25 bones for a 6oz package.
They are offering a great service to people with uncommon needs. My project in question is just a Savage bolt 22. I'll totally survive my current ring crisis. Just bummed because I haven't had to fret over what to use for a long time. The no mar is big for me too, even though my scopes aren't high dollar units. Concensus is that the high end rings will not mar even with direct contact. $$ increase to posess those rings is quite a lot (relative). The Burris offering was nearly perfect for my needs.
I started using Talley lightweight one piece rings on most of my rifles. I haven’t noticed any marring on any scopes. No bases or pic rails, Less room for error with direct mount. I still have pic rail on a 22lr & 17hmr for the thermal & IR.
I'm going to upgrade scopes on my BAR mk2 300 WM. It has 1" rings now and I'll more than likely need/ want 30 mm or bigger rings. Those look like really nice rings. I was looking on their site and it shows they are available for my BAR.
I just mounted scopes on 2 Howa rifles, got Talley lightweights, seem very fine. I have a fair amount of Warne rings on other rifles, lower cost, very serviceable.
I've used all kinds of rings over the years. From cheap UTG up to Nightforce. We have two match rifles that have Nightforce rings and they are the nicest rings we've owned. With the price we paid, they should be. I haven't tried Talley yet but I know they are excellent as well. My CZ527 wears Leopold rings. My AR wears SWFA tactical rings. I Probably use Warne more than anything on most of my rifles these days. I have also used many of a certain brand ring, sold at Dunhams, that the name currently escapes me. They split vertically in 1/2, have a lifetime warranty and were under $20 last time I purchased them. I find them to be a fantastic value. Below are those rings.
just a thought, if you don't do it already that is. wheeler scope mounting kit. even good rings can benefit from it.
SWFA. I can never catch what I want there when on sale. Little known high quality equipment with an interesting back story.
I have never done any lapping. Have not used rings before due to alignment issues though. Bought different ones that worked. I do level reticals to bore plane when I mount.
