if you want to secure them, i don't see there being a problem, but i've had one sitting for two years with no problems. once you get the rack filled about a third of the way up, there's no play in any of it.
if you can get the landscape timbers on sale that's the best, I did not, they cost me like 350 a piece. The cement blocks were a buck apiece
I built something very similar but use 550 paracord and a truckers hitch across the top to keep the top ends from spreading out past 90 degrees. Works really well and looks nice.

Yeah I'm hauling wood in a Cherokee sport. With the seats folded down I can get around a 1/3 of a cord in that thing riding on the axle. Looking to sell the Jeep and get a 99-2003 7.3 powerstroke pretty dang soon.
They're probably the most dependable pickup truck ever made. You might want to add a leaf spring on each side in the rear suspension though. 7.3's will make it to 1M miles without even breaking a sweat. A couple of my buddies own 7.3's nothing sounds better than one with a straight pipe exhaust. They're a lot of fun
not sure if truer words have ever been spoken. i love those 7.3 trucks. i had a friend that was a chevy guy that had one... he never called it a ford though, he called it an international, lol.
By using 2x4 vertically instead of landscaping timbers I can make the rack with only 2 cinder blocks . By using 2x4s and one sell cinder block I can get the cost per rake down to $12 per rack.
The rack in the picture,, the verticals are two by fours, not landscape timbers. If you don't put a block in the middle of the 8 foot timbers you will probably get sagging, but I never tried it so I can't say you will
You guys get lumber for cheap! 3 cinder blocks (about $4 ea), 2 landscape timber ($7 ea) and 2 8ft 2xs ($3.50 ea) would be about $35 here.
i believe the guy that came up with it said it would be fine without the one in the middle, but it's extra assurance for less than 2 bucks, or in my case free since i already had them lying around. man, that sucks, even without any sales i don't think it would be any more than about $17 for me.
My Dad about crapped when they vidisted and he helped me with building a shed. 3/8" OSB at $23/sheet. He works at an OSB mill so I think he got used to free .99 OSB direct from there (no not stealing, it's an employee discount program)
