OK Guru's why, when its single digits does the glass stay cleaner? I run the stove at the same temp ( stack temp) when its 20 it gets a lot of soot on the glass.
Well I am no guru but my Ideal Steel has cleaner glass when I run it hotter. The glass wash works better and I have less smoke. I also think the hotter fire burns off the soot, leaving only white fly ash. However, this is the case for me with different temperature fires.
On the subject of clean glass….We use a product called”Dirtex” to clean our JOTUL. Have used it for 28 years and glass still looks as good as when new. It’s easy and works well without a lot of scrubbing. And no I don’t have any financial incentive to recommend it
Wouldn't more draft lead to higher flue temps? He says he has the same temp. I suggest wood species and little variation in dryness may play a role too.
I wonder if it's a one time setting, or come back n tweak a time or two later on? On colder days with drier air I'd think it possible that things could "creep up" after the initial usual setting. I my mind that's really about the only thing it could be (draft related)
I expect a lower intake setting to get the same flue temp despite the higher draft. In my mind, that would be like forming your lips into a whistle shape to blast the same amount of air harder. That harder blast, like a whistle, directed right at the window where otherwise it would lazily drift into the firebox. Maybe I'm crazy though.
