I gotcha. Not a ton of hardwood in my area. Ash is one of the few hardwoods that I can get easily. Looks pretty similar to me. I have pretty limited experience with most hardwoods though.
It got to 54° today which is nuts for southeastern WI in mid January. Temps are dropping slowly. 39° now, Box elder and a branch round of honey locust in the quadrafire. 75° inside.
The pictures posted are ash, probably white ash. Only other tree with similar bark could be elm, but the grain looks like ash...it will be ash when you burn it....
Added a hickory limb and 2 hickory chunks on the coals about 4:30AM. We got an infrared gun a few weeks ago, I like it...lol... Glass on the door... STT... We keep 2 bedrooms closed off, they're 55-56⁰ ...
25/70 Oak coals getting the full air treatment. 40+ mph winds and temps that were in the 40's yesterday are 25 this morning. Reality check!
36 now, falling temps and spitting snow. Looks like we are in for a cold snap for the next week. More cherry, walnut, and pear in the boiler. The pile is lasting a lot longer than I thought.
8 Windy all night long. There was too much snow to not plow before I left for appointments. So, the truck did it's duty once again! Cold weather is back but even more so with the wind chill!!!
Looks ashy and the D shaped holes in the bark are from EAB. Ash usually has decent sized growth rings ime and I've gotten some that is heavier than oak. Was it split by hand or on a splitter? Was it a decorative tree in the neighbor's yard? Pear/Bradford pear is the only other thing I could think of but its usually more orange and not straight grained.
19/68. Red oak & hickory in the Lopi. Looks like highs in the 30's & 40's for the next week. My name is Mike, and I'm a hoarder in Ok. Lopi Endeavor and Republic 1250
