I picked up 5 garbage cans full of mostly pine lumber cutoffs this morning.

 

Horkn What are you using to cycle your furnace fan on and off?

 

61 here.

I shut the boiler off this morning and just turned it back on a reloaded with random square wood. It's hard to tell what it is but definitely some poplar, hackberry, and sycamore. A few other unknowns.

 

Smart thermostat. I have a wyze thermostat and you can select "fan cycle times" in 5 minute increments. I have it set for 5 minutes which is 5 minutes of an hour, so it turns on for 5 minutes and off 55 minutes every hour. I've set it for 15 or 20 minutes and then it turns on for the 20 minutes, 4) 5 minute equally spaced throughout the hour run times.

I'm sure other smart thermostats of different brands do similar. Also there's some regular non smart, but programmable thermostats that have a " fan cycle " setting that can do this.

 

40/66. Another day in the mid 50’s. Got home and did an ash cleanout before lighting up. Started with 3 splits of chestnut oak till they got rollin’ good, then added 2 big pieces of black locust. All about 22-24” long. Used a wax firestarter.


Didn’t take long.

 

Got the chimney cleaned yesterday and cleaned the stove today. Didn't have distilled water so put a back up cat in. Not positive if it is new or my old one, my bad. Working on getting so coals built up in the stove so it will start to cruise. This is the ash after 1.5 seasons of burning. A little more than I hoped but think it is just soot and nothing bad, open for opinions from others.

 

That’s doesn’t look to bad to me at all! I get that much each time I clean my pipes. I generally clean them twice a year.

 

Thank you, I appreciate second opinions. Hard to believe that this is the 10th season for the IS.

 

Looks normal to me and about the amount I get each time cleaning twice a year.

 

30/72 elm and lumber cutoffs

 

47/68, high between 50-55 today! Half a load of punky oak cooking. Need to bring a tote of wood up this weekend, I hope the mud freezes. I think the next tote will be a tote of oak and pine that fell a couple years ago. I put it in the barn to dry out from the snow and rain a month ago and it looks good!

 

Where do you get all your lumber cutoffs? I wish I could get a load or two here. We have a wood chute and it would be really convenient to have some in the basement for really crummy weather days.

Got some fresh snow overnight that will require pushing a shovel this morning.

 

A factory that makes wooden toys not far from where I live.

 

The thing is, that crud is out of the chimney now, so it can't cause any harm now.

It does not look to be that much, especially after 1.5 seasons.

 

My old round Honeywell t-stat won't do that My controls are heat, cooling and fan, and that fan is on or auto.

 

We’ve warmed up to 19 degrees here. Got about 8” of snow last night, and still falling lightly. Burning Lodgepole in the Oslo and in the Lopi. 74 in the house. Stay warm, teammates!

Yeah, the old Honeywell t-86 or whatever it was called, with the mercury switch and a bimetallic spring. That won't have it. Lol.

Many thermostat makers call this "circulate mode".

 

The smart T-stat will never have a home here. No one else needs access to my settings.
