I found this new in the box Echo 4910 for sale on the local Marketplace for $200 and couldn’t pass it up. Not a pro saw but good enough for the occasional firewood cutting. It was very stubborn not wanting to fire on the initial start up but it finally burped and sounded good once started.
I bought one of those a while back when Home Depot was closing them out - paid slightly less than $200 out the door, but had to drive over an hour to a store that actually had one left in stock. I didn't really think I needed another saw, but for $200 new? But it turns out that I really like that saw! It fills the gap between my 310 and 590/620s nicely. Yep, I like the Echos. LOL Mine has a 20" bar, and I wouldn't normally push it doing multiple 20" hardwood cuts with it, by I do appreciate the reach even when I'm cutting smaller stuff. It's now my dedicated ride-around-in-the-farm-UTV-saw, unless I'm purposely going out to do bigger tasks. After I learned how much I liked it, I put an A2 Designs air filter adapter on mine. Sort of an expensive upgrade, considering how much I paid for the saw, but I sure do like that canister filter a lot better, and the whole kit is nicely done. Enjoy!!
Wow, those saws were practically stolen! I got one at HD on clearance, but not that cheap. I am told that the 4910 is the same basic saw as the CS-501P, except with plastic body parts, like the handle. Mine is sitting my bench, awaiting a muffler modification with a muffler widget from Saw Salvage. It came with a 20" bar which will be replaced with a 16" bar once the original is worn out. Good bye limiter caps?
Yep, I unbolted the external muffler baffle, pulled out the tube underneath, and replaced the external baffle with something off another Echo saw that was a perfect fit but was much more open. Don’t remember now what saw it was intended for. Thankfully didn’t make it a whole lot louder. After the air filter and muffler mods I did have to remove the limiter caps to retune because of the flow changes.
I have one too. Do get rid of the air filter and buy the mod for the drum filters. See where it sucks in air to the filter housing (near the sprocket....) - it leads to much fines on the stock filter and it's hard to clean. I got the upgrade with the open height increaser to allow air coming in to the filter from the top.
That saw is identical to the 501P on all parts that matter. The difference is polymer vs aluminum handle, rubber vs plastic handle grip, and captive bar nuts. We have one that was ported by huskihl ... it is one nasty strong saw now. Almost doubled the HP. We also got the A2D air filter upgrade. World of difference... Here it is running with a XS ported Stihl 400...
Great find. They are actually a pro saw unless a plastic handlebar disqualifies it. Stihl would disagree with all the plastic handle pro saws they sell these days. Lol. It's a 501P with a plastic handlebar, different body work and non captive bar nuts. All the important pro saw items that the 501P has , the 4910 also has. They are great saws.
Can’t believe they quit making those sweet little buggers. The replacement (4920) doesn’t hold a candle to the 4910
I'm surprised they made it at all considering it had to really cut into 501P sales. I'm sure that's why it went away.
You got a steal of a deal there. Cult following saw that I've considered buying. I see them on FBM now and then. Let us know your thoughts on it.
I had thought that I saw someone using older coils that will spin to 14k somewhere in my travels. Maybe OPE. Did not know if necessary when they get 'turnt up'.
Exactly. I need to find one for cheap. They're still out there. I need one to go in between the ms170 and the dolkita 6421. Then I can build the 6421 into a 80/85cc.
A neighbor had a dead 20" white oak come down. I started cutting it with the CS-4910, semi-chisel. It did OK with bucking & rip cutting (noodling in firewood parlance). I'm hoping it'll pick up a little more power after a few more tanks of gas. After 1 tank, I switched to the CS-620P. I had not run these saws back to back, on the same wood; Hotel Sierra, huge difference in cutting speed! I do not know the HP difference, but it is significant, love my 620! I'm very curious to see how much a muffler modification helps the 4910?
Muffler mods really help. They are really choked off. Plus there are limiters on the carburetor. Echos also seem to take a long time to break in.
