28*F overnight. Cold for here. Doug Fir in the stove keeping us warm. Split and stacked a half cord of Doug yesterday to make up for what we are burning. Several cold days and nights ahead.
At least -60 ambient. A mix of spruce short butt chunks and Birch. At these temps. It's all about getting to when it warms up , with everything and everyone safe and sound . The cold sucks the moisture out of everything so caution and care are what is happening. No vehicles moving . Last night the inverter generator quit making electricity, even though the engine was purring along great . Yamaha EF2200IS with 17,900+ hours on it . Thats the 2nd time this winter it's done that.
Restarted the boiler tonight. In the sixties , with a tornado warning just west of us. Temperature will be dropping five degrees every hour into early morning. High winds at the moment, but we aren’t worried. Everyone in the storm path, be watchful!
I'm not exaggerating when I say the difference between life and death is our woodstove. I filled the wood bin with some of the very best long split Birch I've been Hoarding since last winter for such a time as this . 18 to 22" long .

33/68. Temps supposed to keep dropping and winds supposed to get worse all day. White oak in the insert now.
Supposed to drop to zero today. Will likely be -10 or colder. Wind is howling. Got some snow, maybe 6” or so. I’ll have to fire up the bobcat and clear snow. mixed woods in the stove.
wood is the only reliable heat source at those temps. Propane won’t evaporate at those temps so no heat. You could literally cut the top off your tank and see the propane sitting in there like water. We have had a few cold snaps like that where the gas water heater quit working because it got too cold. Had to start a fire under the tank to warm it up.
