My wife and I have been kicking around getting a gas grill since our last one rotted out a few years ago. The Solo (charcoal) Grill has filled void since then. However, we wanted something that would be good for a post Sous Vide sear on a weeknight. My wife has a subscription to America’s Test Kitchen, so I started doing some research.

We ended up ordering a Charbroil GrillGoX200 and an adapter to hook it up to a 20lb tank vs the smaller green bottles.

Bottom line, this little thing rips! It’s absolutely perfect for searing after Sous Viding meat. We’ve tried it out with chicken, burgers and shrimp, all came out excellent. It looks much like a standard gas grill, but the actual grates are stainless and have very small openings vs a standard style grate. I guess this is what makes it infrared vs traditional. In reading their material, this is supposed to have less of a drying effect on the meat compared to a regular grill. While we haven’t done a ton of testing, the first few cooks support that hypothesis. I’ll be sure to keep this thread updated as we cook more on it!

Thanks! It’s a fun grill! It gets really hot on high. Dialing it down to low/ medium low is best for actually cooking stuff vs. letting it rip on high for a good char post sous vide.

One thing I’ve found with this grill, performance is “meh” during the colder months. Seems that the regulator is really sensitive and it goes into the safety mode if the propane tank valve is opened regulary. I’ll have to play around with it a bit more to see if I can get it working when temps are below freezing.

Have you tried opening your LP tank valve super, super slow? Apparently, a safety improvement :picard:
