5 feels like -14. It got up to the mid 30's yesterday and we had a drizzle at different times of the day. Heavy enough that I parked one vehicle outside just to let the "rain" rinse the salt off of it. Temps plummeted shortly after dark.
Probably about 2 at the moment. It's an ongoing thing and feast or famine. Some weeks I don't get any and some weeks a lot. This week I got 8 garbage cans full in 3 stops at the source.
1/65 Stove is working on 2 big Pine splits. Melting away hardwood coals. Making excellent heat. If your east of me get ready. We had unbelievable winds yesterday and overnight followed by a huge temp drop. Guessing its eastbound!
Wow it turned overnight. It was near 50° yesterday. Then temps dropped. 8° out now. Feels like -12, but when the 10 second walk from the truck to the door at work was brutal. 71° inside the house. Loaded the stove with crabapple, ash, and honey locust.
44/70. Lodgepole with a few aspen splits. Sending more wind east.. Calling for a wintry mix. Clouds will be zooming by. So blizzard conditions?
We bought a battery Stihl hand held vac for our cabin. I brought it down here for winter against my wife’s wishes. It works great around the wood stove. I think she approves now!
It was a balmy, wet 55 when i left for work. It's 28 & dropping now, with big wind. Since it was so warm, we let the fire cook down, then put in a creosote cleaning log. I've been burning one in the early winter and one in March. The chimney sweep comes in early February. He gets about 1/2 of a coffee can's worth of mostly ashey stuff from the chimney. I don't know if these logs are snake oil; they seem to work. For $40/year it's worth it to us. Started the stove about 45 minutes ago; the house was down to 71. Burning a little ash with lumber cutoffs.
I have the Makita version and they have a cyclone adaptor as an accessory and it saves me from replacing the bags. Works great actually. 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Compact Cordless Vacuum (Tool-Only) with White Cyclonic Vacuum Attachment Not cheap but after a couple years it's still sucks great and was well worth it.
Strong winds mostly subsided. Reports said gusts were mid to upper 60’s today. Guess I’ll be cruising mp tomorrow for wood scores. 74 inside, idling oak.
I'm rereading many of these books & donating them to a used bookstore that supports a local library and school reading initiatives.
Went to bed at 9 pm last night. 17F. Up at 3 AM. 32F What a pleasant surprise. Stove is working on Elm and Ash. The one Elm split I loaded would just barely fit. Still 2/3's left. It made up 1/2 of my entire load! Something to be said about large splits. I should have taken a pic RichE23ACR Much respect for your interest in reading. My favorite pastime. My wife bought me a Kindle some years ago. I have it nearly worn out! 99% of my books are from our Kindle Unlimited subscription. Highly recommend if you don't have one.
I Wish I had a BK Princess. Sadly I'm $4k+ shy on funds . Yes , we are having some serious Alaskan cold this winter . Coldest we've had at the homestead was a bit of 57 below F ambient . But Lots of low -50s below .
