Finally out of the below normal stuff for here. 33 now and will hold at 32 overnight and warm to upper 40's Thursday. Burned mostly Honey Locust with Hop Hornbeam, Bitter Hickory, Sugar Maple, and some Ash through the cold snap. Stove pretty well holds it's own heating the whole house from the basement down to 25* then the furnace has to kick in a little between loads to keep it 72 like the wife likes. The single digits have the heat pump running but the E-heat hasn't had to kick in at all yet this year. It usually takes some negative temps to get that to kick the electric bill into high gear...
23 This evening could be a mess with freezing rain forecasted. I didn't fire up last evening as the house was warm enough for sleeping temps. Dogs enjoyed it as neither of them wanted out during the overnight. 64 this morning inside; Kuuma is taking on the chore without blinking!
High wind and rain overnight 45*F. Power went out about 1:30 AM. This morning I started the fire and rousted out my camp coffee percolator pot and put it on the woodstove. Cowboy coffee and peanut butter and jelly sandwich for breakfast. Wif and I spent most of the day cleaning the roof, gutters, yard, decks and driveways. Lots of fair sized limbs and general storm debris. I ran the generator for about two hours to keep the chill on the fridge and freezer. Power just came back on 3:30 PM.
29/68. Wind is howling this evening. 55-70 gusts. Just finished 7 on day shift. Just a little lodgepole blazing in the stove.
31/76 cherry keeping us warm tonight. Pretty sure my one neighbor thinks Im nuts. As I fired up the side by side at midnight and headed to the woodyard. Took 2 trips to reload the wood racks on the porch before tomorrow's big rain. Im trying to do a better job this year of keeping them topped off.
Its a 2.91 cf firebox, our PE Super 27 was just under 2 cf so its nice to have a stove thats bigger without having to go through the additional expense of going to an 8 inch chimney pipe. Had fun with it today. Looking forward to testing it out when we actually get winter temps. I seem to recall you have a BK as well. Which one do you have? I see you guys are very cold up there!
28/72 oak, oak and more oak. The white stuff is almost completely gone. Mid 40’s today so that should take care of what’s left. Now’s the time I look forward to a good rain to wash the roads off. They’re covered in salt and what’s left of the brine/pre-treat.
50, windy, and pouring down rain. Most of the snow has melted off. Mix of mystery square wood in the boiler.
It was 46 and pouring rain this morning. Now it’s 39 and most of our snow is gone. elm and oak I see green grass in the stove glass reflection,,,,
Temperature dropping 40 degrees today to in the morning. Using my cutoffs with a sprinkle of maple. Heading out now to do it
