The bark, the shreddy quality of the wood, looks like blackgum to me. Beware! See ya in 2030 if ya decide to take it on.
Someone else wants it, Someone who has a firm dislike for me is going to get a Christmas surprise. I want to make sure this gift is as special as I think it is. Wouldn’t want to give away anything worth keeping.
I'm not 100% sure it's black gum...it looks too straight to me. If it isn't black gum, its sweet gum. Either way, give it away to anyone you don't like and enjoy the pleasure it brings you.
X2! You'll know when you TRY to split it!!! . If it is; Don't waist your time trying to split it. Cut it into 3" thick cookies and burn it that way, If it'll fit in the stove. ! I LOVE burning it and good BTU's, Justa REAL MOT#@R F-----kR to split!
I'll buy the gum assumption, but I can't say for certain black or sweet. It looks like the ones I've cut, especially the darker core. That oughta make a really nice Christmas gift.
Well, I’ve got to ask. How are you going to give it to him if he doesn’t like you? Won’t he be suspicious?
He requested it from a 3rd party. The 3rd party came to me with Reno 911’s request, so I had to verify it wasn’t something I wanted. I gave the 3rd party the ok to send it home with Reno 911. Reno 911 works for parking management. Not the roller skating one, but any of the others would do.
We have a bazillion sweetgums and black gums here. I would be very surprised if that tree is sweetgum and not black gum. To me, it looks exactly like a big, mature black gum here. The deeply furrowed bark, especially big ones, and the shreddiness of the wood is telltale. But I've been wrong on tree IDs before!
That's gonna be some shipping costs all the way to Nashville... Yep, I would love to see them try to that...... Definitely looks like black gum to me. The other tree with that rough looking bark is sour wood, but not the dark heartwood.
Come on now, you well know that in the powerful n skilled hands of our Nashvillian hero, a Fiskars X27 would slice n dice that log like a hot knife through butter!
Cmon if you can do 12 hours hard labor followed by extreme strength, cardio and liquor training you can tear splits off a Blackgum log with your abnormally powerful hands.
