Yes sir, I tell ya I always heard people say square don’t last as long, I’ve found it’s not true….and when you look at a round filed/ground chain and a square it’s really obvious, the round filed/ground has a leading point that takes the brunt of the work, the square has a more “even” cutting face….its a nice little bonus…

I have been getting atleast 2 truck loads of wood (white/red oak and some silver maple at the moment), per chain and honestly I wouldn’t be afraid to go a little more and i probably will just to see how long it takes to slow down enough to stop or switch chains!!!!

I've heard the same about square ground not lasting as long. Yet another reason I never ventured into it. Glad that's not the case.

That rumor was started by someone who got frustrated that they couldn't sharpen it correctly, so they went on a tear preaching about how it's all voodoo and doesn't cut well anyway :)

I dont make my living with a saw so a lot of other people would have a better opinion but I hear with wood and cut for my dad and father in law so cut alot of firewood….but it seems it would last longer than regular round files chisel for sure…and I even cut some dried oak with it….

I have been using 10 degrees on my adjustment that decides the top plate angle…next chain I am goin to do 5 which will make it a hair more “blunt” just to see what difference that makes…it’s nice to be able to make little adjustments to see what works best for ya..

I need to just get one ordered and try it out myself, and see what my results are. I don't make my living with a saw either, but I also cut a bunch of firewood most every year.

I’d you already have the grinder man I would do it….i have looked at teeth from all
Kinds of square grinders for years and I know people may not like to hear it but you can get the same profile from the square jig…cheaper, easy to use, and same results….1500 for a new Simington is to much for me, yes it’s a good one but I’d I can get the same results for $300 I’m in!!!
